Rarely do we get such power so quickly.

See how fast we could be if there was only two of that?

Um and uh at this point in the meeting is when we're gonna do the interviews, and just because it's a little unusual for the people who haven't gone through it before.

Generally, unless there's a quorum challenge or there's um a minimal number of applicants and we have just the right amount to fill a board, we'll usually do the interview today.

And then our next hearing, assuming that there's not some challenge with quorum, we'll make the um recommended appointments, and those will go to the city council after that.

So that's our usual process.

I believe, madam um city clerk that um we have our first hearing up, which is for the civil service committee.

So as we call you up, I'm gonna make a couple announcements.

You'll come down to the podium here for anyone first time, and you'll see the questions behind me.

You'll be given two minutes to answer those questions, and when you're done, if you would step to your right and see Katia, she's over here.

Katia, raise your hand.

And she'll take your picture that we'll include in the next um agenda packet.

So our first board today, item three is the interviews for the civil service board.

Um, the unique item issue is that this board does have a quorum problem.

They have not met, um, been able to meet, excuse me, for quite some time.

Um today I'm we're asking for you to move forward with two nominations.

However, a third vacancy has come up since the publishing, so we'll carry those um applicants over to the next um hearing to have the third item.

Excuse me, the third seat filled.

So these are all members who are described as a citizen of the city with no connection to government.

And so I'll call the first applicant, which is Gwyneth Beard.

Why do I want to do this?

The civil service system is the backbone of any functioning government.

If expectations are clearly laid out by way of well-written regulations and employees are treated fairly and with respect to when it comes to personnel matters, that will translate to a loyal workforce and by extension excellent public service.

I've made a commitment to public and civic service throughout my professional career, giving my time to various charitable or public causes over the years.

And I just finished a six-year term on another charitable board, and so I was looking for my next opportunity.

This board seems like a good fit for my skill set.
