The Personnel and Public Employees Committee met on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at 3:03 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chamber. Hi everyone, I appreciate your patience. We're just waiting for one more council member to be able to start the session. There is a scheduled close session at three thirty today in the chamber. So we're gonna try to be very efficient while giving you all the two minutes of respect that we can for your interviews. And I apologize. Um there's kind of a crazy council meeting tonight, so there's a lot of people running around trying to do last minute things, but hopefully uh council member carr or chair will be here shortly, or councilmember Ash, we will hear here shortly. Thank you for your patience. Certainly, Member Ashby, Member Hansen, Chair Carr. Here. We have a quorum. If you're here to speak to the committee and you're not an applicant, please fill out a speaker slip. They're located in the back window and turn into the assistant clerk before the start of that item. This is also the time I would ask you to turn any of your cell phones to silent and also see the assistant clerk if you need an assisted listening or speaking device. And uh, after you come up to speak, if you would go get your picture taken uh for the record there. Normally we do not appoint on the day that we hear testimony of your description as to why you think you're qualified to be on a particular commission that you are applying for. However, we do make exceptions, especially if there's a case where uh a quorum is needed on the commission that you're applying for. So you call the first item. I'll move consent. I guess I'll second it. All in favor say aye. Passes unanimously. Our next item and our first interviews are the interviews for the measure you commit community advisory committee. This is for C L, the incumbent um resigned, and this is for um our youth seat between ages sixteen and twenty-four. So as the council member said, I'll call your name if you'll come down and to the podium. We're gonna ask you these two questions that are not on the screen behind me. Our first is going to be Fahar actor, followed by a drill of Goblian, and then Taylor Buck. So is Fahar. Adrian's here, sorry, uh Taylor's here, I believe. Taylor, why don't you come down? Who's after Taylor? Liam Beckett, Elliot Beckett, and then Sarah England. All right. Hello, everyone. Thank you for the opportunity to interview for this position. Um, my name is Taylor Buck. Is your mic on? Oh, I believe so. Is that a little better? Yes. Okay. Um, and I am 23 years old, a born and raised Sacramento, District 4, actually. Um, I love the city of Sacramento, and I've invest a substantial amount of time in my education and career serving our city's communities, specifically young people. Um, I have also seen drastic changes of how our city runs, develops and invests over year over the years, and the distribution of measure you funds is a fantastic opportunity to further invest in aspects of our city. So, as I said, I'm also a youth services provider. I've worked with the advocacy team, Sacramento Youth Alliance prior and helped plan the two youth town halls, um, providing youth input on citywide uh youth development campaign plans. Um, I currently serve as a program coordinator for pro youth and families, um, in which I run a youth leadership academy promoting further regional leadership of our young people. And um, my work has been motivated motivated by the idea that youth voice matters and that those voices should be engaged at an equal level with our city's leaders, which is why I'm here today. Um, as I've worked with to support my peers and mentees in my programs, I've seen, heard, and experienced the gaps between what our community wishes our city can provide and what is actually provided. Um, youth and families need more resources, and that motivates me to serve on the Measure U committee. Um, and in addition, including legitimate youth positions like this seat is really exciting and something that I believe our local government bodies have desperately needed for a long time.
