And commissions, how they help us as council members and sometimes the region make decisions, and you'll get to choose people who really care about these issues and have time to spend on these committees or commissions.

Sometimes they're young or in college or or they work in this area, but also want to volunteer in this area.

Lots of really wonderful retired people in the city of Sacramento.

You'll also constantly be very proud of your city because you'll see just this incredible wealth of experience and energy from people who want to engage.

And it is a positive and uplifting entity.

It will also, by the way, make you very popular.

So a lot of people will reach out to you and ask you about how to get involved in these committees and commissions and how they can get your support or your suggestions.

And um, and that's fun because you get an opportunity to really help them see the other side of uh serving in the city of Sacramento.

So uh I want people who are watching, and particularly people who are calling in today, I'd love the opportunity to just introduce my three colleagues here who are also gonna be now helping lead PMPE.

So, in seniority order here, council member Jeff Harris.

Jeff represents District Three, so uh East Sacks, South Natomas, River Park, the Rail Rail Yards, River District, all that good stuff, and the most experienced um of the three moving to this committee, and uh I always like to remind people that Jeff's trade, Councilmember Harris's trade was construction.

So things like planning committee and the design, all that stuff is right up your alley, and I think you'll have a great time helping choose people.

I'd also like to point out that I served on the planning, I mean on the parks and recreation commission for four years, and it was a tremendously valuable experience.

I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Yeah, it's a really good point.

A lot of council members come from planning commission or they have some of those experiences, and I really think it helps a lot.

I mean, Councilmember Harris is a terrific example of that.

He is an obvious champion of the parks department, and I think that's in large part because he understands it so well, having served on that committee.

So it's a great segue.

And then next in seniority order, because she won in a primary would be council member Valenzuela.

So Katie represents District Four, downtown land park, midtown, lots of the fun up and coming areas and part of Natomas as well, River Oaks community and a little bit of um old sack and the edge there of the river and the rail district, so Powerhouse Science Center.

Lots of fun and exciting projects in Miss Valenzuela's district.

You will be a terrific.

This is a natural committee ad for you, councilwoman, because if there's one thing I have learned about you, you love to recruit people to get involved.

And this will be a tremendous outlet for you to do that in a very meaningful way.

Yeah, one thing that you I think can help me with a lot here is sometimes we don't reach as many people as we want to reach.

It's all that's a constant, you'll see that's a constant theme here.

Is me saying to the clerk, how do we reach more people?

And I think it's through our social media is really the best way to do it.

The city does that too, but it'll be nice to have more people to ping off of more and new members to ping off of on that social media to help recruit.

And then council member from District 2, Sean Lilowy representing North Sack, Del Paso Heights, Strawberry Manors, pretty much everything there north of the river that isn't Natomas is his.

Uh, it's an absolute pleasure.

And uh as you said, uh, my my biggest goal is to get the the uh individuals within my district also heavily involved with the activities that um we go through within the city.

So getting them engaged is uh my ultimate goal, and uh we're pushing hard.

So being part of this is very exciting, and thank you very much.

I'm so super glad you're here.

Some of the goals of this committee are to try to diversify representation in every way, socioeconomically, gender, uh people's life experiences, and of course, council districts and historically district two and eight are underrepresented on almost all the committees and commissions, so we can always all try to keep a keen eye on that, but we also need to pick the best people to help us.

So we'll try to recruit and uh and we'll have some fun while we do it.

I think there'll be a committee or commission you can kind of look forward to.

It's usually a bit of a ray of sunshine, even when other things are kind of falling apart at the seams.

This will be one that you can come back to, and it'll always remind you of all the people who want to help us do better.
