Before we start, I just wanted to go over a couple procedures.

I think everyone here is uh aware, but um there are speaker slips in the back.

Um if you would like to speak about uh something on the agenda, please uh we encourage you to fill out a speaker slip and submit it to the clerk here on the left hand of the dais.

Um and then um if uh if you're interested in speaking something that's not on the agenda, just list um item six public comments items not on the agenda.

Um I just had a question under on the staff report items.

It says on the CLG report that what we did on the on the minutes of the December 7th meeting was that we received and filed, but we also made comments.

So is it not appropriate to say that I don't want to list the comments, but just to say that we can't that that we received and filed with commission comments?

I'm okay either way, I just didn't know procedurally if that's um I think that's that's an appropriate clarification.

Uh I don't know if our legal council has um any observations on that point, but I think we could make that revision to the minutes.

You did indeed give us uh input on the the draft of the CLG grant programs.

Agreed.

Okay, uh moving on to item item two, director's report.

Okay, um so I have several items I wanted to report to you on.

Uh the first area of discussion has to do with development projects.

Um there is an item actually on the agenda that deals with one of the projects that the State Department of General Services is proposing.

There are two office building projects in the downtown area, and um the one that is proposed in the block between OP 7th and 8th Streets could potentially affect the August Heilbrunn House.

Uh we will discuss that in more detail later uh as an agenda item.

Uh there's a second office building that's proposed at 1215 O Street, and there was a scoping meeting that was held actually last week on Thursday, where both those projects were uh talked about and described in kind of preliminary uh form by uh by DGS.

Um we have had um contact by DGS uh in planning.

They came and they spoke with us in late December.

I'll give you a few more details later on in the uh the meeting.

Uh they've made it very clear that they would like to hear um our feedback on the project and promise to doing um robust public outreach on it.

So there's there's they're serious about listening and trying to understand what the concern the preservation concerns are from the community.

Let's see.

Oh, yes, the other thing that I should mention to you is that they voiced an interest in coming and speaking to you here, possibly in March to give you more information about the projects as they're unfolding.

Under development projects, I also wanted to mention two applications that we're reviewing currently.

They're both projects that are near each other at the intersection of 21st and U Streets.

They're both multiple story, primarily residential developments, new development that would fall in the category of infill development.

Staff has been in discussions with them, expressed concerns about massing bulk, material usage, proper respect for the historic buildings that adjoin one of the historic buildings is the Stevens House.

A lot of vigorous comment from the Newton Booth Homeowners Neighborhood Association about the project.

So bearing in mind that input as well as the input that you here gave us back at your October meeting about carefully considering in fill, new new infill development and historic district contexts and settings where we've conveyed that information to the applicants and these two projects and are working with them, and they seem to be amenable to revisiting their designs and addressing some of the general comments that have been made.

So I wanted to share those items with you under development projects.

Some very happy news progress on the mid-century modern historic resources survey and historic context.

On December the 29th, the city sat down with the selected consultant, Trum Rule, a joint venture of GEI consultants, and meet and hunt, discussed an updated preliminary approach to the work plan that will accommodate the shrinkage of the project timeline.

And we will I've had one meeting with the Office of Historic Preservation maybe a week or so ago to talk about the slight changes to the work plan, and they seem completely amenable to what's being contemplated, and we'll have further discussions with them this week with the consultant present as well.

I wanted to also acknowledge in the context of surveys, although it's a little bit of a tangent, is there was direction from the commission at your last month's meeting about the issue of infill development and historic districts.

Staff is very mindful that you have a keen interest in this and want to provide your input on it.
