Our Heavenly Father, we are gathered here today as members of the community of Sandy amongst our community leaders, and we are grateful to live in this time and place.

We pray that that would bless those who we honor tonight for their service, that they might know of our gratitude.

Heavenly Father, we pray that uh that this would be uh a meeting of joy and that uh things might go forward in a way that would be pleasing to thee and this we pray for in the name of Jesus Christ.

Uh we'll go ahead and start with introductions, starting with our council executive director, Mr.

Fratto.

Thank you, Madam Chair.

My name is Dustin Fratto.

I'm with the City Council Office.

There are two other council staff members in the back of the room, Justin Sorensen and Liz Terrio.

My name's Tracy.

I'm counsel for the council.

I just want to go over general citizen comment briefly.

Our council policy is that we won't take citizen comment prior to 6 p.m.

And so at an appropriate time during the evening's agenda after 6, we'll come back to this.

If you are interested in making public comment tonight here in the room, there are blue cards in the back if you'd like to fill one out and bring it up here to Mr.

Fratto.

And then if you are online, we will uh be calling those online participants in the order that they raise their hand at the appropriate time, and everyone will be given three minutes at that time.

I want to go ahead and start with agenda item number one, which is a special recognition and presentation of the Noel Bateman Lifetime Service Award and the Sandy City Council Civic Engagement Award.

Tonight we have two very special programs as part of our City Council annual awards program.

We will be presenting these two awards this evening, honoring and the dedicated honoring the service and dedication of two individuals.

For our first presentation, will the Don Gertie family please join me in the front of the daisy?

The Sandy City Council is proud to introduce a new recognition and award, the Sandy City Council Civic Engagement Award.

This award was established to honor individuals whose voluntary service, civic involvement, and quiet leadership have made a meaningful and lasting impact on the city of Sandy and our community.

The inspiration for this award came during a special recognition held earlier this year in honor of longtime resident Donald Frank Gertie, whose exemplary life of service and civic commitment perfectly embodies the values this new award seeks to elevate.

Now a little bit about Don.

For over 25 years, Don Gertie faithfully served the people of Sandy as a dedicated member and longtime chair of the community development block grant community committee, or the CDBG committee.

Under Don's steady and thoughtful leadership, the committee helped direct more than 10.5 million in federal funding to vital community projects.

But beyond the numbers in the projects, Don led with something rare, a spirit of humility, kindness, and respect.

He created a welcoming and thoughtful environment where all voices were heard, where disagreements were met civilly, and where no unkind word was ever spoken under his leadership.

His dedication to community, leadership through example, and unwavering involvement in civic life left an indelible mark on Sandy City.

On behalf of the Sandy City Council, we would like to present the inaugural Sandy City Civic Engagement Award to the Gertie family to honor posthumously the life, service, and legacy of Donald Gertie.
