Um so this is the proclamation, whereas child abuse and neglect are complex and continuing problems in our society, affecting over three million children annually nationwide, and whereas there is no test of the society more important than the status and treatment of its children.

Whereas the Child Protection Center works to prevent child abuse and to protect and treat children affected by child abuse with the hope of creating a community in which every child is free and safe from child abuse and urges all citizens to be aware of and involved with the local and national programs which provide ongoing protection of our children.

Now, therefore, the City Commission of the City of Sarasota, Florida, and on behalf of the citizens of our community, takes great pride in recognizing April 2026 as Child Abuse Prevention Month, a month of special importance and worthy of the recognition of the residents of the City of Sarasota.

Sarasota City Commission Regular Meeting – April 6, 2026

Public Comments & Testimony

Martin Hyde (non-city resident) provided white flags to commissioners, criticizing recent approval of a $300,000+ city manager contract and warning that the city risks layoffs similar to the School Board's announced 250 job cuts. He also questioned the vehicle replacement policy and suggested using credit lines instead of cash.
Flo Entler (city resident) displayed a decibel-limit comparison chart, urging a simple, enforce-a-sound threshold (e.g., 65 dB or plainly audible standard) at all times and places, stating the police cannot protect without the right tools.
