Oh, we're good.

0:03

We're good.

0:04

Okay.

0:05

Hi, good afternoon.

0:06

This is the St.

0:08

Charles Parish Library Board of Control meeting for September 15th, 2026.

0:13

If we can stand and have a moment of silence and prayer, and then Mr.

0:19

Methurn can meet us in the pledge.

0:29

All right.

0:34

And to the Republic for which it stands.

0:36

One nation under God.

0:39

Indivisible with liberty and justice for all.

0:42

Thank you.

0:46

All right, the first order of business is the approval of the minutes from our May 19th, 2026 meeting.

0:54

And I believe they have been circulated by You circulated them right.

0:59

By Ms.

0:59

Benedict.

1:01

Can we have a motion to approve the minutes?

1:03

I'll make a motion.

1:04

We approve the minutes from last month.

1:06

All right, can I get a second?

1:08

Thank you.

1:33

All right, the motion passes unanimously, so the minutes have been approved.

1:38

Um for the attendance report.

1:40

I believe everybody signed the attendance report.

1:43

All right.

1:44

Next item is public comment.

1:46

Do we have any public comment scheduled?

1:48

No, no scheduled.

1:50

All right.

1:52

And next up is the most informative part, the library readers report, Miss Benedict.

2:03

Okay.

2:05

All right.

2:06

So we closed out another successful summer reading program at the end of July.

2:10

Um I've given each of you a handout.

2:14

It looks like this.

2:16

Um showing reading challenge completion and program attendance.

2:21

If you look at the first side that says reading challenge statistics, you'll see that we had 2,484 patrons sign up for the reading challenge.

2:30

That's a slight increase from last year.

2:33

Um completions, however, were down by almost 15%, with 1,269 patrons completing the challenge of reading for at least 360 minutes.

2:44

Part of the reason for this, though, was that several daycares that previously participated through our bookmobile service either closed or chose not to participate this year.

2:53

Um so we actually saw a decrease of 310 participants.

2:58

Um that was a difference just from Bookmobile last year.

3:02

Um despite the decrease in children's completions, we did see we actually saw an increase in teen completion by 13% and an increase by about 1% of adult completions.

3:14

So that was kind of surprising.

3:16

Um but again, that was because of we think that's a lot, had a lot to do with the daycares that did not participate as they had previously.

3:26

This year our community reading goal was 2,750,000 minutes.

3:32

While we didn't complete um meet this goal, our community still read 2,164,118 minutes.

3:40

Um so great job, St.

3:42

St.

3:42

Charles Parish.

3:43

Um, and again, the the daycares contributed to that number being down.

3:48

If you flip a page over to the other side that says program statistics, you'll see that we held a total of 366 programs throughout the months of June and July, with a total of 8,501 patrons attending.

4:03

And this was a 10% increase in program attendance from the previous year.

4:07

So, all in all, a great summer reading.

4:10

Um Grandpa Prizes were once again generously provided by our friends of the library group, and we thank them for their continued support.

4:18

This year's summer reading challenge prize winners were in our children's category.

4:23

Amelia Dupree run won a kids tablet.

4:26

Claire Boujois won a Lego set, and Wells Delon won a bike and helmet.

4:32

Um in our teen division, Mia Leon won a fire tablet.
