1:42

We've approved the minutes for both those days.

1:45

We are going to go a little bit out of order on our agenda.

1:48

We will not be hearing Board Bill 36 today.

1:51

And we will actually be starting with discussion item number three.

1:54

Then we will go to items number one and two.

1:58

But discussion item number three is uh the mayoral appointments to the library board.

2:03

Uh Sharon Shahid, Kathy Surratt states, and Greg Lee Glore or Glore, don't know how to pronounce that.

2:11

Um to uh discuss these appointments is the Alder Lady from the 10th.

2:18

So with that, if I will pass the uh virtual mic over to her.

2:24

Thank you so much, madam chairwoman, members of the committee.

2:26

Thank you for accommodating this special request today.

2:30

And uh most importantly, thank you to Sharon Shaheed, Kathy Sarrat, uh Staith, and Mr.

2:36

Gregory Glore uh for not only taking the time out today um to connect with us here at the Board of Arm Board for their commitment, um, this unique way that they are gonna serve the city of St.

2:47

Louis as mayor's appointments to the St.

2:48

Louis Public Library Board.

2:50

So with that, they are here.

2:51

Thank you for being here.

2:53

And if we have any questions through the committee, I am just asking for your favorable consideration for them to be moved through the committee and back to the floor tomorrow at the mayor's appointments to the St.

3:05

Louis Public Library Board.

3:06

Thank you.

3:08

Thank you, Alder Lady.

3:10

Do you want your guests to speak?

3:12

Uh then I'll just uh if if they'd like to say a few words.

3:15

I know we're trying to keep things moving, but they are here.

3:17

Uh I'd love for them to be able to introduce themselves.

3:21

They're here, and if they have, if you all have any questions for them, um again, there's the vetting process that absolutely goes forth before they even come to us, right?

3:28

And then uh you're able to, we as alders are able to view their uh resumes, so we see all of that, we see the records of their service.

3:36

So, but then being here, I didn't want to miss the opportunity for them to make the introduction and see if you have any questions for them before we move them back to the floor.

3:43

Okay, thank you, Alder Lady.

3:45

So why don't we go with um and Madam Clerk?

3:47

Can we have uh Miss Shaheed first and then we'll go in the order that's on the agenda, then Miss Surrat States, and then Mr.

3:53

Glore.

3:54

Uh they can just introduce themselves and then after each one.

3:58

Uh if anybody from the committee has any questions, I'll pop it back to you.

4:07

Hello, my name is uh Sharon Shaheed, and I just moved back to St.

4:12

Louis eight months ago, and am thrilled to be a nominee for uh the St.

4:18

Louis Library Board.

4:20

I am just thrilled.

4:22

I wanted to be a librarian when I was a child, and uh actually the library was transformative for me.

4:29

My library card was like my passport, which I used almost every other day.

4:35

So I'm not gonna uh prolong things because I know we have a lot on our plates, but uh that's who I am.

4:41

I am thrilled to be a nominee, and I look forward to working on the board.

4:48

Thank you, Ms.

4:49

Shaheed.

4:50

I'm just gonna go through and ask committee members in order to seniority if they have any questions.

4:54

Uh Alderman Narayan.

4:58

No questions.

5:00

Uh thank you for your willingness to serve.

5:02

Thank you, Alderman.

5:03

Alderwoman Keys.

5:05

Um, no questions, but welcome back home.

5:08

Thank you.

5:09

Uh, and uh I'm I'm glad to helpfully have you on board uh in a place that I know you already love.

5:16

Thank you.

5:17

Thank you, Alder Woman.

5:19

Uh Vice Chair Devotee.

5:21

Uh I have no questions, but Ms.

5:23

Shaheed, thank you for for uh agreeing to serve.

5:27

Your excitement is uh it's it's it's amazing.

5:31

So thank you.

5:32

Thank you.

5:33

Thank you, Vice Chair.

5:34

I don't have any questions for you, Ms.

5:36

Shaheed, like my colleagues uh have said.

5:38

Thank you for your willingness to serve.

5:40

I was a frequenter of the library.

5:43

Uh so uh books were often my passport to new places.

5:46

So uh yes, very excited for your uh to have you serve and your enthusiasm.

5:51

Um with that, I think what we're gonna do is we're gonna vote on the nominations all at once.

5:55

So then we're going to pass the uh we'll have Miss Uh Surratt States up next, at least next on the the screen.

6:03

All right.

6:04

Thank you so much.

6:05

My name is Kathy Surratt States.

6:07

Um and I have lived in St.

6:09

Louis since 1988 when I came here to go to graduate school.

6:13

Uh certainly growing up in Tulsa.

6:16

I like um Miss Shaheed uh went to the library on a regular basis.

6:20

My mom let me uh check out a big stack of books when I was a little girl, and I took them home and read them all and certainly appreciate um uh the library.

6:30

I currently sit on the St.

6:32

Louis Library Foundation board.

6:34

So I'm uh I am aware of the many uh services that the St.

6:38

Louis City Library provides um to the citizens of St.

6:42

Louis, and I'm very excited to continue uh to work with that so that those uh services continue uh to be available uh to the citizens of St.

6:52

Louis.

6:54

Thank you, Miss Surratt States.

6:56

Um we appreciate your enthusiasm as well.

6:59

I'm gonna do the same thing and just pop through the committee here to see if they have any questions for you.

7:03

Starting with Alderman Narayan.

7:09

Again, uh no questions, but uh also thank you for your willingness to uh to do this role.

7:16

Thank you, Alderman.

7:18

Alderwoman Keys.

7:20

I don't have any questions, but uh glad to have you on board.

7:25

Thank you, Alderwoman.

7:26

Alder Vice Chair Devotee.

7:28

Uh I don't have any questions.

7:30

Judge, it's been many, many years since uh I uh you and I spoke.

7:33

It's good to see you again.

7:35

Yeah, thank you very much for your service.

7:37

Good to see you as well.

7:39

Thank you.

7:40

Thank you.

7:41

I don't have any other questions.

7:42

I too was the child with this stack of books bigger than my my face or my head uh going to the bookmobile.

7:48

So um I don't have any questions, but thank you for your willingness to serve.

7:53

Thank you.

7:53

Uh yeah, now I'm just trading bills for books, I guess maybe.

7:56

Uh um, and we're gonna go with our last uh uh appointment nominee, uh Mr.

8:03

Glore or Glory.

8:04

I'm sorry if I'm mispronouncing your name.

8:06

Yes, it's Glore, G-L-O-R-E, and thank you for this uh great invitation to uh join this board.

8:13

Um I too grew up here in St.

8:15

Louis, um, but moved back here about 12 years ago after I retired living in Kansas City.

8:21

Um I have enjoyed uh being back is uh I have gone to the library, both the Shafley, the Carpenter, the Central Library for different classes from Excel to Google Docs, Google Sheets.

8:35

Uh I'm always in the library with reading.

8:37

Uh I currently serve on the Airport Arts Advisory Committee already uh from last year's appointment.

8:44

Uh so I look forward to um being able to contribute to the continued success of the library.

8:52

Well, thank you, sir, and thank you for being here.

8:54

Uh, we're gonna go through this last third and final time.

8:57

Uh Alderman Narayan, any questions?

9:00

No questions.

9:01

Again, uh, thank you for your willingness to serve and look forward to uh confirming all three of you tomorrow.

9:08

Thank you, Alderman.

9:09

Alder Woman uh Keys.

9:13

Well, it sounds like we have a winning team.

9:15

So I'm gonna say congratulations in advance.

9:19

Thank you.

9:20

Thank you.

9:22

Vice Chair Devotee.

9:24

No questions.

9:25

And again, thank you, Mr.

9:26

9:28

Uh no questions, uh, sir.

9:31

Thank you again for your for your double service uh for our city.

9:35

Um, and with that, I will pass the virtual mic over here back to the alder lady from the 10th.

9:41

Thank you.

9:42

So thank you again.

9:43

Thank you to our nominees.

9:44

As you can see here, this is the powerhouse, right?

9:47

The three people who could be doing a lot of other things, but they are here absolutely choosing um to give back and serve in their city this unique way.

9:56

And I would be remiss if I didn't say, you know, what Ms.

10:00

Shahi said about libraries being transformational.

10:02

We know that the two libraries, the one in the 10th War Academy branch and the one in the uh, I think it's in the elevated 11th board, uh, Julia Davis, they have reopened now uh after the tornado, them intentionally putting the work in to do that.

10:17

They could have left them closed, right?

10:18

Because it was a lot of work.

10:19

So we know that this work um is needed.

10:22

We know that these safe spaces are needed.

10:24

So again, thank you all for choosing to serve your beloved city uh this way.

10:29

And with that again, I ask for your favorable consideration to move them back to the floor for appointments, the mayor's appointments to the St.

10:35

Louis Public Library Board.

10:38

Thank you, Alder Lady.

10:39

So with that, I will entertain a motion to approve all three of the mayoral nominees to the library board.

10:47

So moved that was one, two, three.

10:51

You got a second.

10:54

The devotee take that and I'll I'll second it.

10:57

Madam Clerk, that was that motion was made by the alderman from the fifth and seconded uh with love by the uh alderman from the elevated 11th.

11:06

Uh previously that's how excited we are, right?

11:10

Absolutely.

11:13

Previous role.

11:19

Great.

11:19

Well, we just did previous roll, so that means all of we voted yes for all of you.

11:24

Uh thank you again for to the uh I guess your nominees, uh future appointees for uh taking time out of your afternoon.

11:33

Um what we'll do is that now these uh your nominations will move to the full board tomorrow, uh where they uh should be approved, and then uh you'll you'll be official or end that will, or that will just go back to the mayor's office and it's out of our hand.

11:47

So uh that is all we have for you today.

11:50

Thank you.

11:51

Thank you all.

11:53

Bye.

11:54

Bye bye.

11:57

All right, moving on to our other business.

Uh we have two bills for engrossment.

12:04

Uh one is board bill 33, and the other is board bill 43.

12:09

Uh, I know we have Madam Clerk here, so uh honestly, clerk's choice, dealer's choice on which bill you'd like to start off with today.

12:20

I think we'll go through 33 since that's the easiest one.

12:26

All right.

12:26

Uh Board Bill 33.

12:28

Then we will go to items number one and two. But discussion item number three is uh the mayoral appointments to the library board. Uh Sharon Shahid, Kathy Surratt states, and Greg Lee Glore or Glore, don't know how to pronounce that. Um to uh discuss these appointments is the Alder Lady from the 10th. So with that, if I will pass the uh virtual mic over to her. Thank you so much, madam chairwoman, members of the committee.
