Key takeaways from 14 events (800+ participants): residents want green spaces, continuous sidewalks, small grocery stores, coffee shops, and community gathering spaces. Barriers include disconnected sidewalks, high car speeds, and transit gaps. Preferred building forms: traditional/craftsman, Pacific Northwest materials, mixed-use at neighborhood-compatible scale. Staff proposed proceeding with regulations for indoor sales/services and mobility hubs in residential zones. Council gave general direction to proceed, requesting a list of proposed commercial use categories and draft standards. No firm commitment made.
Nick Wilson Memorial Plaza – Proposed Scope Changes: Redevelopment Manager Sean Farley recommended pivoting from a small plaza on Main Street to improvements on the Fanno Creek Trail: replace slippery boardwalk with non-slip fiberglass decking, restore creek banks with native plants, improve the Main Street crossing (wider bulb-outs for cyclists, ADA ramp), add decorative railing on the bridge, and install a custom bench honoring Nick Wilson. Council supported the modifications unanimously.
Building a Better Tiger – Polling Results and Bond Market Update:
City Manager Recruitment Process: HR Director Laura Gomez presented a list of five recruitment firms. Council decided not to issue a formal RFP. A subcommittee (Councilors Robins, Schlack, and Council President Wolf) was formed to vet the five firms, call references, and select a firm. The subcommittee will report back to the full council. Council will provide feedback on the scope of work via email.
