Appointments

Good morning. Welcome to the 1030 a.m. Urban and Economic Development Committee meeting, September 2nd. I call this meeting to order. Anne Chang, are you here? Come on up. Have a scene. Any of these MTCQ. Appointment to the Asian Affairs Commission replacing Sophie Noche. Term expires January 1st, 2027, representing Council District 7. Excuse me. Council District 4. Hello, how are you? I'm good. Thank you for having me. You don't have to move there. Oh, okay. It'll pick you up. I'm here. Just tell us a little bit about yourself and why you would like to serve on the Asian Affairs Commission. Sure. So I'll just kind of share two items that I think are germane to the conversation. The first one being my professional work. So my day job centers quite a bit around what I call Tulsa boosterism. The other way to define that is positive propaganda about the city. So my creative partner and I work quite a bit with entities like Visit Tulsa, Experience Tulsa, Gathering Place, a couple of other arts and culture nonprofits. And our goal is really to share the wider Tulsa story with a big audience. As big as possible. Scale is really our goal. And in doing this kind of work, you kind of get to understand that you can't really share what's special about Tulsa until you know it very intimately. And I think for me that means getting to understand the cultural communities and the subcultures and all of the rich cultural groups we have here. So all that to say I'm really excited to learn about the Asian community here and share their stories on a wider platform. And then of course, vice versa. And then the second thing I'll share is that this type of work, this very specific type of work was championed in my household growing up. So my mom was a great role model, and she was heavily involved in the Chinese Association of Greater Oklahoma City. So she was involved in the Asian festival. She put on many an event. My dad and I tabled at many an event for free on the weekends I might have. And so I really see this work as a continuation of what she has started. But for a city that I love and a city that is frankly much better. I'll be next to it. Well, thank you so much for your willingness to serve, Councillor Dudden. Yeah, I want to say thank you as well. I'm so appreciative of the Asian Affairs Commission and the economic drivers that they contribute to East Tulsa and Northeast Tulsa with their festivals, all of that. It encompasses so much of a population. I know when the moms come together, they come from all over the country to celebrate. And so I really appreciate the economic drivers that you bring. The commission brings to the table. Yeah. Thank you.
