The Tuscaloosa City Council convened on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 6:31 PM. Rezoning Request

All were recommended for approval. No council questions were recorded.
Board Appointments
- Brandy reported on three boards requiring appointments:
- PERA: One seat vacated by Peggy Hogue, with 14 applicants. The Mayor encouraged selecting someone with a focus on youth recreation and sports. Council members discussed and agreed to appoint Stephen Deal.
- Zoning Board of Adjustments: Two supernumerary positions were vacant. The council voted to appoint Rodney Pelt and Joe Robinson. It was decided that Rodney Pelt would fill the longer term (ending 2028) and Joe Robinson the shorter term (ending 2026).
- Tuscaloosa Tourism and Sports: Incumbent Dennis Connor was eligible for reappointment; Samira Snotty was not eligible due to term limits. The council agreed to reappoint Dennis Connor and will consider resumes for the remaining seat next week after the deadline (5:00 PM that day).
Resolutions and Ordinances
- Deputy City Attorney Bobbitt presented a list of resolutions and ordinances from pages 26-50 of the agenda. These included authorizations for purchases, contracts, agreements, budget amendments, property declarations, and code amendments (including non-consensual towing fees and rotation record fees), as well as a severe weather preparedness sales tax holiday for February 20, 2026. No votes were taken during the reading; these items were scheduled for later action.
Executive Session
- The council moved to enter executive session to discuss pending litigation, potential litigation, trade negotiations, and matters under the Alabama Trade Secrets Act. The motion was seconded and passed.

So this is Jamie Gray petitioning to rezone about half an acre around 2678 21st Street from neighborhood commercial to mixed residential one. This is in Council District 2. So there's the location of the property. So here's the zoning. So MR1 is around it. And you can see from these photos here. It used to be a little commercial. I'm not sure what it was previously, but clearly clearly has not been utilized for a while, which is why it's zoned neighborhood commercial. The applicant wants to rezone to MR1, which is in the area as well to construct four single family homes. And this is kind of what they're proposing. And that's that's pretty much it. So it does conform to framework for the use and the zoning request, as you can see on the future land use character map. And then it was unanimously recommended for approval. Is this for sale? I am not sure. I believe so though. I believe that they'll have four homes that I'm not sure what their future plans are for those. They'll be here tonight. Yes, sir. Okay.
