The Tuscaloosa City Council met on October 27, 2026, to discuss property condemnations, zoning board appointments, and a series of routine agenda items including contracts, fund disbursements, and public hearings. The meeting opened with approval of the previous meeting's minutes and proceeded through department reports and council member updates.
Motion and a second to approve the minutes if y'all have had a chance to look over it. Second. All right, we've got a motion in a second. All in favor. Minute stand approved. Now for our new business. Can we have a department reports from Mr. Williams? All right. So the first one we have here is 8244 over Brook Road. On July 28th, the hearing rep of the hearing of representative from a mortgage company after 90 days to foreclose on the property. This property has been foreclosed on. No work has been done yet. But in the last three days, we've had two different companies or somebody reaching out on behalf of supposedly Fannie Mae because when it was foreclosed on, Fannie Mae took it over. They're requesting that we table it to give them a chance to assess the property to see what they're gonna do with it. Is there another house out there that they are working on? Do you know about that? Yeah, that's the that's the other one down at the end. That's the old Zalinka house. They finally started working on it. Okay, because somebody told me they were working on one day. That's the other one. Uh we had started the condemnation process. I went out there to post it the other day and they started making repairs, so I just held off on condemnation process. I don't mind so they say they want to report. So supposedly Fannie Mae just found out about it. It was repossessed or foreclosed, excuse me. It was foreclosed on the 9th of this month, if I'm not mistaken. But Fannie Mae just got notice of it and was told about the condemnation proceedings. So if we're gonna table it, I would say no more than 60 days. If y'all want to do that, I'm okay with that. Okay. Because if we if we did condemn it, there's nothing could be done because no no permits ever been pulled. So they would not be able to make repairs if we condemn. So the 60 days would at least give them a chance to decide what they want to do. And there may or may not be a representative here. I don't know. Uh the lady I spoke with from the other company was going to reach out to see if they wanted her to come represent, but I don't know. My thought is they don't do anything in 60 days. Okay. So the next one is 1225 19th Alley. This one was tabled on August 18th, 2026, where the owner requested 45 days to apply for a variance to allow for non-conforming structure with a non-conforming use to be repaired. On September 28th meeting, it was unanimously uh denied at this point. There's nothing that the city can do to or she can do to save it because we cannot issue a permit for it. I spoke with her today. I explained all of this to her.
