The Weatherford City Council held a regular and executive session meeting on July 22, 2025, starting at 6:00 PM and adjourning at 7:56 PM. The council approved the consent agenda, heard public comments, acted on several regular agenda items including a street vacation, a pawn shop conditional use permit, and fire apparatus purchases, and took action on executive session items.
Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Before I call the meeting to order, I'm going to ask uh David Slider to come up from Grace Presbyterian Church here in Weatherford. Lead us in our invocation while he does so frequently. We appreciate you being here, David. Thank you, sir. Let us pray. Good and gracious God, we thank you for this day. We thank you for the things that we have been blessed with in this community, community of Weatherford, and we pray that you would continue to pour out your blessings upon this community. God, there are those who have lost a lot. Remember those down in the hill country in Kerr County and the surrounding areas, and they've lost a lot, Lord. We just pray that you would be with them, that you would give them peace, that you would comfort them in their time of loss. God, where there's people who are living on the streets in this heat, and we just pray that you would continue to watch over them, that you would provide people to uh give them water or to give them food. God, that they would just remain safe. God, we lift up this council to you and pray that as they continue to make decisions for this community that you would guide them, that they would turn to you, that you would listen, that they would listen for your wisdom. Item four on the agenda is items of community interest. Aaron Spoxer. Welcome. Mayor and Council, it's been another busy stretch here in Weatherford, and we've got some great community highlights to share with you tonight. When seconds count, they are calm in the chaos, and now they've got awards to uh to prove it. Huge congratulations to Nikki Smith, named Supervisor of the Year, and Reagan Rice, honored as professional of the year at the North Central Texas 911 Awards. Officer Riley O'Donnell was recently recognized for winning first place in his age and weight class at the 2025 Texas Police Games Power Lifting Competition. He uh competed in the 198 weight class with impressive lifts of 425 pound squat, 374 pound bench press, and 440 pound deadlift. So wow. I feel like it was too easy to make a joke about like lifting donuts, so like I just was something I hadn't heard in a long time. That low. And then I heard what he lifted, and that's even more amazing. Councilmember Luke Williams recently received Lion of the Year Award for 2024 2025. Thank you, Lion Luke, for your outstanding service and dedication this past year as president of the Lions Club. Big kudos to the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce for bringing home best event marketing at the 2025 Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives Conference. The honor goes to the creative promotion of the first ever Parker County restaurant week, cooked up by the chamber's very own young business leaders of Weatherford. Look closely, you might see a couple of familiar faces. And then recently, Weatherford Electric Utilities crew swapped their hard hats for helping hands and rolled up to a Terrant Area Food Bank mobile event, loading up cars with food for local families. And when Manis Dorehouse found themselves overwhelmed by an abundance of donation, the firefighters at Station 1 responded to this different kind of emergency call.
