Um so after meeting with him, we've been working Brian worked up some pricing where less than a thousand dollars to be able to strike that, put signage up.

And we're gonna uh as you can see in the letter what the time frames are gonna be.

The school PD system is gonna be handling any towing any of that, and we we don't hope that doesn't happen.

We just know it's a possibility.

Um then so once we do that and once we get the approval and everything, then we'll start working on getting that strike.

And uh they they they love the idea after we met with him.

So uh and we think we also discussed that they're they're technically not at full capacity with preschool right now, but they plan to be next year.

So depending on how that goes, they don't have as much drop-off pickup traffic for that.

So depending on how this goes, if everything works good, we're hoping then we'll move forward with that.

So it was a great solution you came up with.

And if anybody in this room has ever dropped off kids at the school or picked them up, packed your lunch and take them taken out.

Not a fun trip out here over there.

So it's takes a lot.

I've taught it strode, and it's um it got very difficult getting in and out.

So this is a great solution.

Um, you know, clearly we don't want it to be a lengthy process, but it needs to reflect how everyone else went through the process, and I think we all on a separate kind of topic would reflect the sentiment that this is a very unique program.

And this program is the backside of a three thousand dollar writer narrative, no questions asked grant, as well as many, many, many other grants.

So, as it's we all have learning curves, you know, and and we all give each other grace, but the importance of the value of this program really needs to resonate with everyone.

So you know what we're looking for to clarify some things.

Okay, just try to get it with Whitney or Whitney, you get with them, and uh let's move forward because I don't think there's another city that has gone through construction and shut down and has ever given back to their businesses every year.

And some of them have been shut down for a year.

What's the status of the rest of the DDIF grants and program and balance?

Because that might be a way if we can't justify because of the technicalities of numbers, but those are grants that are always available if there's money that might be a way to help the newer businesses as far as if they haven't already received the stipend that helps with rent and that kind of thing, or if they need to do something to do a judge of advertising, there was a grant that would go towards a one-time special thing.

So maybe if those are still in existence, we could gather up some information and push that back out to try to use those grants because that may be a more appropriate way to get some some funds out to the businesses that you know that were too new.

Well, may I reflect from that comment?

So at the 430 meeting and the commissioner comments, I suggested that I don't remember how I said it exactly.

Maybe a pause basically we're gonna pause the DJIF program for some time to re-evaluate, revise, re-establish.

Um it is a unique program for any community, and it has provided thousands and thousands of dollars from rental assistance to roofing to kick start.

Um, but I'm just gonna say we're at where's the point where we program is gonna be a deficit, and we can't do that.

Yeah, and that's what I I knew it was getting there.

So it's gonna be a pause.

We are gonna establish when we plan to get it back and running, and uh Whitney can actually speak up.

But it's gonna that was a topic of what's our next step to continue.

And all of us know how frustrated people have been across the state, and all of us have been frustrated in this community as well for having to go to Richmond for licenses and renewals and those types of things.

So this Senate bill is asking that those come back to the local level, and but only for um this very basic, not for your driver's license for kids, but for renewals, and if we can get this passed, that would be great.

So we're doing a resolution tonight to encourage the state senate to bring the driver's licensing back home as much as we can and put it back at the local level and to keep people from driving to Richmond to renew your license.

Um so that's what we're voting on right now.

So I just want to be sure everybody under understood what we were doing.

I have talked with uh Representative Dotson today, and he said the feeling uh in Frankfurt right now is this may not go anywhere, but it's at least uh a proposal at the point at this point.

So I want everybody to know what they're voting on because people have had to have long wait times, they haven't been able to get appointments, people have had to drive sometimes long distances and get there and told there's no more appointments, and so for renewals or duplicate licenses, we're trying to get those back into the local and eventually I hope to see us get back driver's license in our own community as well.

Um, just that I asked chief, but I like to reiterate things in front of the public.

This does not take uh place of a constable position.

No, ma'am, it has nothing to do with the constable position, and just so everybody on the commission is aware.

We started this about a year ago after I became chief.

Um we made a request to the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council to accept our traffic safety curriculum, which we had to do by statute.

We made that request last summer.

They only meet quarterly, it didn't land on their agenda until February in their meeting.

They approved it.

Uh, this is a little bit of a unique situation because we took a sworn law enforcement officer that's been completely through the academy and is certified, and then we put them into this position.

So he's been through all the training that he needs and then some to do this, but they don't recognize that.

So we still had to do this.

We still we still have to put Leon through this curriculum for him to be officially done and certified, but they do it also by statute require an ordinance be in place and a job description be in place on the traffic safety office.

So that's why there's so much paperwork on your desk.

It is not a sworn position.

Uh we have the option to let him write minor traffic citations.

I'm not doing that.

If he needs a traffic citation written, he'll call a sworn officer to the scene and they'll do it.

So uh we're not we're not exercising that option.

We can in the future if I change my mind, but that's where I'm at right now.

And he'll still do some still have some code enforcement responsibilities.

He is he is he is predominantly code enforcement, but he will work, you know, he'll work 30 or 40 collisions a month during business hours, non-injury collisions, minor collisions that he can respond to, and just take some of the load off of the sworn officers and their what they're doing.

It's worked out really really well.

He's been doing this, it's not something that's you know gonna take off now.

We're just trying to get all our boxes checked and things and checking.

And last year Leon went through his end service, so his certification as a sworn officer was good, but this year we got to get this in place so he'll be able to do these traffic safety things because he won't be going to an in-service this year.
