The Public Works Committee met at 2:00 PM on September 10, 2024, in the Committee Room at 101 North Main Street. All four committee members were present: Council Member Jeff MacIntosh (Chair), Council Member Barbara Hanes Burke (Vice Chair), Council Member John Larson, and Council Member Annette Scippio. The committee considered consent agenda items, two public hearings on road naming, and an extensive information presentation on downtown parking modernization.
Everybody to the September meeting of the public works. And uh as usual, we have a consent agenda and a general agenda. Uh joining me here today, or uh Vice Chair, Councilmember Burke, uh Committee members and it's a PO and John Larson, and we also have Councilmember Monday. And on today's agenda, we have four consent agenda items, three general agenda items. Uh does anybody have any consent agenda items they want to pull? I have one, but C three. Item C one resolution authorizing an app application for the federal funding through the bipartisan infrastructure law drinking water state revolving fund-led service line replacement program. Ms. Driver, can we get a very brief on this? And the reason one of the reasons I I pulled this is that I got a question about how citizens will find out what their responsibility is for their internal cost structure what when it is when it is finally decided how the rules are going to apply. Okay. Yes. Yes, good afternoon. So this is a um a resolution resolution uh requesting that the city council approve an application for federal funding to replace lead service lines. This piece will be just to replace uh service lines within the public right-of-way. Once the uh lead and copper rule improvements um rule gets finalized in October, we'll have a better idea of what we're requirements we'll have on private property, and that will be you know the utilities requirements. Um the the funding cycle is every two months, and it's two million dollars per month or per funding cycle. Um as far as the the customers' responsibility, we will know more after October, but um you know we can't require a um someone to go in and replace pipe pipes on their private property. So once we have more of an idea of what the utilities requirements will be after October, we'll be able to communicate that better, and there'll be funding available and some programs that we uh put into place to help with those initiatives later on this year. We do the will we notify people through mail house through our social media campaigns through G13, those kind of things. Yes, all the above. So we'll post it on our website, we'll do mailers, um any any potential re potential resource that we have, we'll definitely take advantage of that to communicate. Thank you. Okay, motion approved.
