I'd like to call to order the May Public Works Committee meeting.

I am Public Works Chair, Barbara Burke, and joining me on committee today are the Vice Chair, Councilmember Scott Andrew Bowen, Councilmember Robert Clark, and Councilmember James Taylor.

Our agenda is made up of two parts, the consent agenda and the general agenda.

And it is the practice of the council to act on the consent agenda with one motion.

Council members, we have one consent agenda item.

Would anyone like to pull that one item?

Item G1, consideration of items related to North Carolina Department of Transportation agreement for additional funding and time extension of Piedmont Regional Greenway Construction.

King, can you tee this up for us?

Absolutely, madam chair.

Um so Charles Hendrick is our engineering finance manager.

He's gonna talk to you a little bit about Piedmont Regional Greenway and what we're doing with this item.

So I'll turn it over to Charles.

Chairman Byrd, members of committee and council.

This the item before you is a supplemental agreement for additional time and additional funding to ext, and part of this agreement.

This agreement is for the Piedmont Regional Greenway.

This section of Greenway is a 6,500 linear feet, 10-foot wide path that goes extends the Salem Lake Trail there at Limble Road up to Hastings Hill Road there at East for Sythe High School.

This uh Piedmont Regional Greenway is part of a larger planned greenway that's about 19 miles that would go from Lindbull Road all the way out to Summerfield.

Uh several communities are involved, Oak Ridge, Summerfield, Kernersville, uh also Winston Salem and Greensboro.

It would extend in the free future, it will extend uh trails to those different municipalities.

This trail does it connect to the Salem Lake Trail that goes from marketplace out to Salem Lake, and therefore people can would be able to vote for marketplace on Peace Creek all the way to Somerville?

That's that yes, ma'am.

In the future, that's the intent, but it's gonna go that far.

Right now, we're at least gonna get uh get the trail up to Hastings Hill Road.

But yes, it does start right there at the uh uh near the parking lot there at Limble Road Councilmember uh Bowen.

Um so the there was original estimated uh price for for this project, and I saw that there's a there is an increase in in that the total cost, and it says that it's gonna be estimated time to finish it is around 2028.

Is that still correct?

Yes, sir.

We are planning to let this for construction at the end of 2026, so probably in the fourth quarter of 2026, so it'll be under construction and will be completed before that end of performance, which is September 30th of 2028.

And are we are we still in that this is a comfortable price price increase for us?

That that could then continue on for the next three years.

Once uh we are still trying to finish the design phase, we're approximately at 65 percent of design.

We have a consultant that we've selected to finish that out once the uh agreement with that consultant has been signed.

The consultant will come on board.

Uh once the design is complete, then we'll have we'll run new estimates based on current numbers.

So definitely from the original estimate, the uh you know you see uh inflationary cost to it, yes, sir.
