I'm a family medicine practitioner and addiction medicine doctor, um, resident of uh the city of Yakima.

And I'm speaking in very strong opposition to the proposal for the stay out of drug areas.

Um, for those unfamiliar with this proposal, um, this would allow uh the courts as part of pretrial release or other court um operations to restrict individuals who have been accused or found guilty of drug-related crimes from entering certain fist certain areas in Yakima, um, specifically those known to many of us.

Um South Necheese Avenue and I believe it's First Avenue.

Um I have multiple concerns with this proposal.

Um the first is that I'm concerned this will restrict access to already incredibly limited lower income housing.

Um, as many apartment complexes are located within the proposed boundaries.

This will likely have more significant consequences for racial minorities and other minoritized groups.

Even if that's not of particular concern to the count council for ethical implications, I would encourage that it make the city wary of a potential lawsuit arising from enforcement of the proposal, um, which is a cost that taxpayers are not interested in bearing.

Um there have been several legal challenges to similar proposals in other municipalities which have not gone through, but they will continue to be challenged.
