The meeting opened with a moment of silence for Dan Strauss, a longtime community volunteer, and Sheridan Gorman, a resident recently murdered. The board discussed routine approvals, heard presentations from the Alliance for Safe Kids and the Yorktown Youth Council, debated a local law on temporary certificates of occupancy, and covered resolutions and old business. Key decisions included appointing members to several boards and authorizing budget transfers and contracts.
Good evening and welcome to the uh town board meeting of April 7th, 2026. If we could all stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. Liz, can you uh lead us off? To the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. So if we could remain standing for a moment of silence. Um just found out uh this afternoon that unfortunately Dan Strauss had passed away. So uh if we could hold him and his family in our hearts, and also uh, as we remember um Sheridan Gorman, uh who lost her life on Thursday the 19th, uh senseless murder, uh, as we pray for her and her family uh, especially as they try to uh overcome this great loss. Thank you. Yeah. All right. Um introductions to my right. Good evening, Diana Clos, Town Clerk. Patrick Murphy, town councilman. Supervisor Red Leichterman. Deputy Supervisor Sergio Esposito, Susan Siegel, Councilwoman. Elon Gilbert, Councilman. Adam Rodriguez, town attorney. All right. Uh for my report for the town, a few things to go through real quick. Uh first, uh, some really good news. A federal judge uh dismissed the lawsuit that was being brought by 76 Route 6 Holdings uh developer against the town of Yorktown. Uh ruling that the municipality acted within its legislative authority when it amended its zoning code to eliminate recycling transfer facilities as a permitted use. Uh I was at the meeting very confident uh in our decision and our efforts to protect our town's quality of life, and I'm glad that the judge agreed with us and we'll give kudos to our attorney Adam. Thank you for uh for handling that. My pleasure. Thank thank you. Um last uh actually two Thursdays ago, there was a uh there was a uh fire incident at the country house uh where they had an electrical panel go. Uh I want to just thank a few people uh quickly. So we had uh well first I'll thank one of our residents who notified me about it, Mr. Copstein, thank you, uh to Jay. But our fire department responded, our building department responded, uh our building inspector John Landy, uh Ed, our our former fire inspector is now full b full building inspector. Um we had the county EMS, we had YVAC, we had MOVAC, we had um uh county uh county uh emergency services with uh help from Yonkers with Me2s, which to move wheelchairs, and the community emergency response team uh under the uh the auspices of uh our Yorktown police department, Jack Dowerty, Sergeant Dowerty is our safety officer. We were able to set up uh within hours a shelter for about 42 of the 80 plus evacuees. We were able to get everyone uh housed for the night. Oh, I'm forgetting to thank uh Mike Debowski from Yorktown or Hanover Electric. He came up uh after hours. I called him, he looked at the problems, and the next morning had someone there to start effecting repairs. Uh and the repairs were effected within uh 24 hour period where everyone was back and eating, thanks again to all those groups. And uh it was truly truly amazing. And our uh building maintenance staff uh at the YCC, or I'm sorry, the Albert A. Cappellini Community and Cultural Center, uh, and also uh the members of the nutrition uh department helped out as well in some of the uh some of the areas. So it was really a team effort, and it was so great to see all those agencies working together and doing what needed to be done. So thank you to all of them. Uh there was a round table discussion at Cortland Town Hall on 330 uh Monday night. We spoke about that at the last meeting. Um lot of great uh groups there as well. Peak school EMS, Osaning EMS, uh County was there as well. Uh so a lot of a lot of really good discussion, uh, some eye-opening stuff, uh some stuff that that we knew already, but um uh we're we set up to meet within the next two months to uh discuss some some of the things that have come through and then to share them with the state uh uh the state of assembly and Senate members in our area so we can start to effect some change. Uh so when the clock is ticking on EMS needing the support, we'll be there when it's needed. Um let's see.
