The Yorktown Town Board held a work session on April 14, 2026, beginning with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for former state Assemblyman Elliot Engel and in remembrance of Yom HaShoah. The board discussed several land-use applications, a proposed affordable housing set-aside law, and an amendment to the zoning code regarding temporary opinion signs. Multiple resolutions were adopted, including renaming the annual Battle of Yorktown event in memory of longtime volunteer Dan Strauss.
Good evening and welcome to the April 14th, 2026 uh Yorktown uh town work session. If we could all rise for the Pledge of Allegiance, I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. And we'll stand one under God, indivisible liberty and justice for all. If we could all remain standing as we have a moment of silence, uh I would like us to uh remember the life and service of Elliot Engel, uh who served our state well and uh recently passed away, uh and also as we uh reflect on uh this evening being uh Yamaha Shoah, uh the day of remembrance for the Holocaust and the victims uh of that. Thank you. All right. Um I just have one question. Um I noticed in the uh looking at the agenda now. I I I didn't know whether on the tenet of it. The bottom line is we had put on you had put on added the old business, new business on the other agendas for the regular town board meetings. I was hoping that we would also, since uh we don't have the opportunity to um you know, or we meet three times, it's not on the the work session, and I hope that's an oversight and we can also have it. Well, the the thought process, Alan, was that we were going to add that so the town board members would have an avenue other than uh their opening remarks to bring up that's the the things that they felt important from that point of view. Uh usually we don't have that avenue at a work session, regardless. So I took it a work, you know. My my feeling is it's it's uh it's worthy to have it the same. Let me take it under consideration. Let's see how it even runs on the regular meeting for a couple. Okay. Because I didn't I didn't think it helped us much at the last one, to be honest with you. Well, I think because it was so new, but that's okay. So let's see a couple of things. I do will be I do have two issues I'd like to bring up after we do all the resolutions, and I will bring it up before we adjourn the meeting. Uh maybe after we adjourn, but before we adjourn the meeting, I'd like to address two issues. Thank you. That don't have to wait until uh April 28th, which is our next meeting. Because remember, everyone, we're not meeting next week, which is the third Tuesday of the month. We're meeting April 28th. So there'll be a gap of of uh of a week. That's why I'd like to bring up two issues. Sure. And all are invited uh on Thursday evening to come back to our boardroom as we will be having our own Holocaust remembrance event. Uh we have a Holocaust survivor coming in to speak and tell his story. Uh it's always a very uh very good program, very educational. We uh we have different crowds that come in, and if you can't make it into town hall, it is on our television uh station, uh, which I believe cable vision is 20 and uh Verizon is 31. 33, thank you. And uh you can sit there and and and watch it from home, and you can even go back on our website and watch all of the previous ones uh that we've had so all right uh oh thank you. Uh just a reminder also uh thank you, Diana. The meeting on April 28th will be at the John C. Hart Memorial Library. So please come over to the library, check it out. We'll be in the uh uh updated uh community room. So really so uh they did a great job there, so you get to see uh what they've been doing at the library if you haven't gotten over there. All right. Uh I'd like to convene public hearing to consider stormwater management permit applications submitted by Mrs. Rima Odorna to construct a four-bedroom single family dwelling at 3771 Perry Street.
