Yes, madam chair.

So I requested this meeting after we had three failures on the Spa Creek Bridge over the past over two weeks due to the heat.

And I was hoping that we could invite folks from our public works department and from state highway, as they are the primary responsible entity from uh for the maintenance of this bridge.

And I don't know if miss to talk about what went wrong, what were what we did to get the bridge back operational, what the plan is to maintain it in the future, and um what we're gonna be doing to eventually replace it because I think it's kind of on its last legs.

So I don't know if we have anyone from public works or from the state highway joined us here today.

Did we have anyone from the those the one of those departments?

No, I don't think so.

Okay, so we're this is this is a pointless meeting then.

Yeah, that's the purpose of it.

Okay, well, we can't go no further with that.

Um we'll just do you want to wait until September or do we want to just try do this again?

Um I mean it's kind of too little too late to get anybody here.

It would be good to learn more from the state exactly what's going on, or maybe our public works knows, but still, if we got somebody from the state, we could figure out if they have any kind of upgrade plans for that bridge, what the lifespan is, um frequency of how shut down that kind of thing.

Yes, we need and maybe they have pictures all showing us um how old and you know, different parts that may give out or whatever, you know.

Something is making it not you know shut.

So and that's why the main bridges that we need here in the city.

So if they I don't know, maybe are people on vacation now, or you think we should try have it in before September.

I mean, we're always off on August, and I live like a nomad.

I am so upset.

I'm sorry, I'll tell you.

They couldn't make it.

So I mean it could have called.

Okay, um, well, we'll invite them to our next meeting.

And hopefully the bridge will remain like it should with no problems until we meet again.

Or never have them all problems right now.

So um anything else we can um talk about, or we just that was our main concern, though, you know.

So pleased that we're here and with the continuing support from the governor and the governor's team.

Uh you're going to hear from our secretary of the department of emergency management, Russ Strickland.

But thank you for what you're doing in this project, but also the other emergency projects around the state and FEMA.

So as you can see, this is really uh a team Maryland day.

And this wouldn't have happened without everybody gathered here and many more people, and never giving up.

This is an example of perseverance and persistence at work, and that requires everybody pushing from their own angle and their own point of leverage.

Well, thank you to Senator Van Holland for being Team Maryland's quarterback in the federal delegation, but also as you see behind me, the epitome of Team Maryland when we say it's not just the federal delegation, it starts with our local partners, our county partners, our state partners, and of course uh the federal team.

I think we've all been here many, many times to announce really great news to announce state funding, 18 and a half million in state funding to announce uh almost 10 million dollars in federal earmarks to announce the resilience authority to to mark uh Congressman Sarbeans.

Uh sorry, there's too many tall people behind us.

Uh we were here during one of the biggest floods.

I think the fourth biggest flood on record, standing right here surveying the urgency of of now.
