Auburn Endurance Capital of the World Committee Meeting - September 17, 2025

The Auburn Endurance Capital of the World (ECC) Committee held a hybrid meeting on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at 6:00 PM in Room 10 of City Hall. The meeting included approval of prior minutes and agenda, a treasurer's report, and updates on various projects, events, and communication efforts. The meeting adjourned at 6:48 PM.

Discussion Items

• Treasurer’s Report (Action Item): Larry presented the budget. Beginning September balance was $4,773.03. A $31.18 charge from BlueHost for the annual domain name fee was noted, leaving a remaining balance of $4,741.85 from the original $5,000. Motion to accept by Alice, seconded by Lori. Unanimous approval.
• Water Bottle Filling Station (WBFS): Cynci reported that repairs to the Lukens memorial water station are complete. The committee previously decided to install the WBFS at the Lukens station but now needs to communicate with the Lukens family and the city to add the WBFS to the fountains or revert to the original plan to install on the wall near the restrooms at the Auburn Art Park. Alice and Cynci will follow up on communication. Cynci will obtain two current quotes for work at either location.
• 2025 Event Review: No update from the prior month.
• 2025 Event Schedule: The Christmas parade is the only remaining activity. Potential participation in the Resolution Run (January 1, 2026 from Overlook Park; fees $45-$55 for 5K, 10K, and 10 mile runs, virtual option $38) and the FOURmidable Trail Races were discussed.
• Swag Update: Cynci will order an assortment of lights for the Christmas parade.
• Olmstead Tile: The tile has been installed. Shannon and Cynci suggested a dedication ceremony and will reach out to the Olmstead family. The committee discussed combining the ECC October 15 board meeting (beginning at 5:30 PM) with the dedication ceremony. A publicity push was planned once the date is confirmed.
• Cycling Report: Bob reported two stakeholder reviews for the Auburn ATP segment of the Fehrs and Peers redevelopment plan. Project priorities are not near-term and not funded. Placer County’s ATP is further along but has minimal funding for top priorities. Bob will provide specifics at the next meeting.
• Water Sports: No possible representative has been identified.
• Trail Projects: Lori noted one more work party scheduled (September or October). The "Granite Sheets" segment will not open in 2026, hopefully 2027. More work discussed to restore parts of the original trail and remove the present road.
• Website: No additional work this month. Darci and Cynci consider removing the video to improve website accessibility; discussions to transfer the video to YouTube. Bob will check with SFCC’s webmaster for advice.
• Instagram, Monthly AECW Friends Email: Erika was unable to provide an update.
• Facebook: Shannon is keeping the site current and looking into adding additional information.
• Monthly "Fun" Brainstorm: Not detailed.
• Roundtable - Additional Discussion: The team expressed disappointment in budget cuts which have impacted efforts to identify and pursue new endurance-related activities and events. The committee resolved to persevere.
