All right, tonight we have two proclamations.

We'll start tonight with the proclamation for National Nutrition Month.

And I'm especially excited for this tonight because I'm also registered dietitian.

Yes, so this uh I laugh last year, I didn't even think about the proclamation.

So I'm excited that we're doing it this year.

All right, so National Nutrition Month, March 2026.

Whereas food is the substance by which life is sustained and proper nutrition is essential to the health, growth, and well-being of individuals and families.

And whereas the type, quality, and quantity of food individuals consume each day play a vital role in overwhelm overall health, disease prevention, and physical fitness.

And whereas National Nutrition Month is an annual campaign created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics to raise awareness about the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.

And whereas education and community awareness about nutrition can empower individuals and families to make healthier choices that improve quality of life and long-term wellness.

Now, therefore, I, Kelly Davis, mayor of the City of Auburn, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim the month of March as National Nutrition Month in the City of Auburn, and encourage all residents to learn more about the importance of nutrition, make informed food choices, and adopt healthy eating and physical activity habits to support a healthier community today and in the future.

All right, our second proclamation tonight is for Trisomi Awareness Month and Trisomy 9 Awareness Day.

Whereas trisomy is a condition characterized by the presence of an extra chromosome within a person's cells, a genetic disorder that deeply affects individuals and their families.

And whereas the most common trisomies in newborns are Down syndrome, trisomy 21, Edwards syndrome, trisomy 18, and Patel syndrome, trisomy 13.

And whereas Trisomy 9 syndrome is a rare chromosomal disorder caused by duplication on the ninth chromosome, which occur due to an error in cell division after fertilization, leading to an extra chromosome.

And whereas families are encouraged to take advantage of local support groups, medical professionals, and online communities that offer education, encouragement, and counseling for those managing trisomy pregnancies or raising children affected by trisomy.

And whereas awareness and understanding of this genetic condition, both within the medical community and the general public, play a significant role in helping individuals and families access proper care, treatment and support.

And whereas awareness and understanding of trisomy are also important for helping children affected by trisomy to live and thrive.

And whereas the City of Auburn encourages everyone to learn about trisomy and commends the members of our community who are working to raise awareness and education for all forms of trisomy, support families experiencing trisomy, and enable people with developmental disabilities to achieve their full potential.

Now, therefore, I, Kelly Davis, mayor of the city of Auburn, on behalf of the city council.

Do hereby proclaim March 2026 as Trisomi Awareness Month and March 9th, 2026 as Trisomy 9 awareness day in the city of Auburn.

So I know this is a little strange giving it from one council member to another council member.

Um, but I haven't really talked much about my daughter in the past, and I have a seven-year-old who actually has Trisomy 9.

Trisomy 9 is a very rare genetic disorder.

There's only a couple hundred diagnoses in the whole world.

And so it's a very challenging thing to have a very rare genetic disorder.

And so I just wanted to kind of highlight the challenges of those, and that people you may not expect have these kinds of challenges going on.

Talking to geneticists is actually um her the condition is very rare, but having a very rare decision uh diagnosis is not rare.

So one out of 10 uh people in the world actually has some kind of diagnosis of a condition that's considered rare, and 80% of those are caused by some kind of genetic um cause.

So um I just wanted to talk about how you know it's really important that we talk through these things and and be aware of those around us.

Trisomy is very similar to down syndrome, but has it's on a different chromosome.

But there's also a lot of different challenges that people have of all different kinds of genetic disorders that are going on.

And I just wanted to to talk about and make uh the everyone aware of those kinds of things.
