Those of you are like, oh, great, another running story from another running.

Oh my god, can we ever talk about anything outside of gold rush running or horses?

So mile 99 and the Western States 100.

I'm just gonna tell you real quickly, it's been around for 50 years.

It's one of the most prestigious 100-mile races in the world.

They call it the Boston Marathon of 100 mile races.

There are 369 spots in the race, and over 10,000 people apply to try to get into this thing.

People will vol or will try to qualify year over year, and they all covet or claw after 369 spots.

You go from Olympic Valley up in Palisades, and they run on the Western States trail and finish here in Auburn at the Placer High School track.

Mile 99 is where I get to live, where I got to raise my kids, and where the start of the story that I'm about to tell you takes place.

So at the Western States 100, they're with the 369 spots that they have to run, which is limited because of the granite chief wilderness, and they protect it and they don't want thousands of people stampeding through the build of beautiful place.
