The Aurora City Council met for a regular meeting on Monday, October 6, 2025 (recorded on October 7, 2025) with Mayor Kaufman presiding. Council Reports and Appointments
- Councilmember Coombs announced the appointment of Pastor Topaz McBride to the Citizens Budget Advisory Committee, replacing Venisha Shresla who could not attend meetings. Coombs also thanked the community for attending in person and expressed hope that the council would support holding future meetings in person.
- Councilmember Jurinsky reported on a park cleanup at Delaney Farm Park with volunteers, including the chief public defender, students, and a Ward 3 candidate. Encouraged residents to email about other parks needing cleanup.
- Mayor Pro Tem Sundberg highlighted several activities: attending a gala for Greg McDonald Evangelical Association, a CBS News feature on the city’s wellness court, a study on transit gaps in Ward 2, and a tour of the Food Bank of the Rockies’ new 270,000-square-foot facility in Ward 2.
- Councilmember Medina announced a town hall on October 14 covering the commemoration of 250/150 years celebrations, with APD reports and community items.
- Councilmember Hancock reported on attending the Galen Nursing School grand opening, a Schoolhouse Rock show at the Fox Theater, MiniCon on the AMC Great Lawn, and a water tour in Rocky Ford with Councilmembers Bergen and Medina. His town hall on October 10 at Noon’s Other Bridge golf course will focus on energy independence.
- Councilmember Lawson noted the federal government shutdown and announced two town halls (October 18 and 21) covering water department updates, traffic safety, and the RFP for older adults.
- Councilmember Bergen reported on E470 IBTA conference preparations, Fitzsimmons Redevelopment Authority board meeting, Arapahoe County Share Back Grants program ($13 million for parks), Metro Housing Coalition panel, Food Bank of the Rockies tour, and Arkansas Valley Water Tour. She also noted attendance at a budget workshop on Saturday.
- Mayor Kaufman announced a town hall on October 18 at 2:00 PM at Aurora Central Library and encouraged residents to follow his Facebook page for updates.

We come to you and we ask that you look upon this particular gathering tonight to keep us safe and guide us in our decision. Bless our city with honorable citizens, industry, sound education, and good government. Unite our community together, even though we come from different backgrounds. We pray that there be justice and peace in our city. Give the city council and citizens the wisdom, direction, and sensitivity to the business and proceedings before us tonight. Hear us therefore as we commit this meeting to the help of the community all in. Please join me in the Pledge of Allegiance. During the executive session, uh we uh discuss uh uh vendor selection. Um let's see, and then land acknowledgement. Um City of Aurora acknowledges that we gather on the territories and ancestral homeland of the Cheyenne, U D Arapo and Lakota peoples, past and present. We also recognize the 48 contemporary tribal nations that are historically tied to the lands that uh make up the state of Colorado, indigenous peoples have remained committed to the stewardship of this land over many centuries as these words have acknowledged when have spoken and heard the ties that bind these nations have to have uh to their traditional homelands and to their vital place in the ecosystem are renewed and reaffirmed, and we are called upon to be better stewards of the land we inhabit as we continue to work uh to meet the needs of our entire community. Um approval uh motion is ordered for the approval of the minutes from uh September 22nd, 2025. Mayor, I move to approve the minutes. We moved by Mayor Pretem Sunberg, seconded by setup second by council member cassage to approve the minutes of September 22nd, 2025 discussion. I say no discussion, uh call for the question on the adoption of the minutes from September 22nd, 2025. May vote yes, Katie. Katie, I vote yes as well. Yes, Cherinsky. Mayor Kaufman, may I vote? Councilmember Medina. Councilmember Medina and Murray. Oh I don't have your vote. The motion passes with nine yes votes to adopt the September 2025. Councilmember Medina, thank you.
