This study session, held on February 11, 2026, at 3:08 PM, covered updates on the city's water shortage response, a local landmark nomination for a historic fire engine, a proposed retail licensing ordinance for tobacco and related products, and a discussion of state legislative positions. The session included presentations from city staff, questions from council members, and votes on legislative positions.
The study session of the Aurora City Council for Monday, February 9th, 2026 is called the order. Would the clerk please call the roll? Mayor Kaufman. Here. Councilmember Andrews. Councilmember Bergen? Here. Mayor Pratemkums present. Councilmember Gardner. Here. Councilmember Hancock. Councilmember Member Horton. Here. Council Member Jackson. Here. Councilmember Lassen? Here. Councilmember Medina? Here. And Councilmember Wells. Here. Okay. Mayor's update. I just want to state how important I think it is for members to make the regular meetings. And if you cannot make a regular meeting, and I and I count virtual or in person is the same. If you cannot make it, I want you to contact me in advance and let me know why. And uh you know, uh your mayor's not missed. I've been here for about six years and I've not missed a meeting. And uh I I regard them as very important. And so first uh let me just say um after the roll is called during the regular meeting. Uh if a member is not present uh in person or virtually, uh I will state uh whether I was contacted by that member and whether or not they gave me an excuse. I don't need to know in general, I don't need to know specifics if it's if it's personal matter, just say that. Uh if it's job related, you know, or you know, it's just a conflict. But the fact is I want to be told in advance. And and if not, uh I'll state that for the record. Um are there any issue updates? Okay, well, just on that point, um, I have been here for over 10 years and have very rarely missed a council meeting. Um, not only that, but let's start taking attendance on policy committees because again, I may have missed one in my whole 10 years, as well as all my outside boards that I sit on, which are quite a lot. Um, I think I've missed one E470 board meeting in 10 years, and I have two of those per month. So um if we're going to talk about this, and I understand I think it is um respectful to you to let us know, so I agree, but um just for the general public because there was a lot going on with the Sentinel and people saying that it was boycotted, which was not true. Um, you know, maybe look at everybody's attendance record for all of our meetings, not just council meetings in general. Well, uh it is the chair of the respective policy committees that are responsible for the conduct of their policy committees. I'm responsible for the conduct of the regular meeting. Council yeah, so council member laws. I just need to let you know it's missing, but if it's a personal matter, I don't have to tell you that. That's correct. That's correct. Okay, and HIPAA. Yep. Okay.
