I love talking trash.

Good evening, uh Madam Chair, Vice Chair, Trustees, General Manager Spurgeon.

Just thank you.

I'm Jerry Schubert, Director of Solid Waste and Recycling.

Thank you for having me here tonight.

Just wanted to update the trustees that we're during this holiday season.

We're we're going to toy with a change in our schedule a little bit.

We typically don't work Christmas or Christmas Eve because they're holidays for the city.

But unfortunately, because the landfill is would have to be open on a Saturday the entire day, which they are not.

Um Saturday if we were to push everything two days.

So what we've done is we've uh talked to staff about moving to actually work Christmas Eve.

So for our citizenry, we're going to be alerting them that there's a schedule that is going to be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, their regular service days.

Wednesday is Christmas Eve, so we will be out running.

Um we will then run Friday because we're not open Christmas.

There's no way to be open Christmas, there's no place to dump.

And then we'll run Friday, Thursday's routes.

Similar to what we just did for Thanksgiving, where we ran Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.

Thursday is the holiday for Thanksgiving.

Friday is typically a holiday for the city, but we work.

So we we shift the day.

So we're gonna be doing something similar for the Christmas holiday.

And it's um we just want to make sure that everybody's aware.

One of the things that we've noticed in this 410 schedule with the four-day work week is that there's some scheduling opportunities for us to maybe dial some things in, and this is the our opportunity to kind of try that out.

And then you know, if we have further changes down the line, um, we'll be back in front of this board to let them know what we think is the best suggestion for that.

But this is what we're looking at for Christmas.

Okay, so like that schedule there on the to be decided on Christmas.

No, we we shifted it to to be decided a couple of weeks ago when we started to realize that Saturday was going to be a real problem.

Um TRT uh typically isn't open at at all on Saturdays.

They're gonna be working with Tulsa to be open, but even with that, it's a half day for them most of the time, and we don't have a half day worth of work.

So we saw this when we had that snowstorm last year.

So anyway, that's all it is.

All right, um, item six is general authority business.

Item A is consideration discussion on possible approval of the lowest responsible bid to crossland heavy contractors.

Uh Charlie.

Uh good evening, madam chair, vice chair, trustees, general manager.

I know we've had a lot of talking tonight, so it'll kind of be brief.

Um tonight talk about the award of an additional brine tank out of our water treatment plant.

So um we haven't won existing brine tank at our plant.

It is uh basically it's used to help produce our sodium hypochlorite, which is what we treat our water with at the plant.

Um tank we have works great, but basically we let it run low till it's time that we need to refill it and then refill.

But in times of high use, high demand, um, it can kind of get tricky when we're refilling it.

And uh, and then just kind of a redundancy factor.

If it ever went out, we'd have a problem.

So part of our capital plan, we bid getting a second tank.

One, it gives us a lot more redundancy, it gives us more flexibility, um, and just increases the duration we need um between refills.

So this was bidding the project to add a second brine tank.

Um we went through the state process, 21 bay bid bid period, um, and ultimately cross crossland heavy was the low bidder for one million ninety-two thousand dollars.

Um we're recommending award to them.

Well, I just want to thank our um our trash our trash service for working the holidays just to make a good, you know, yeah, help our citizens get their trash taken care of.

So if you can let them know, I mean that's that's a big sacrifice to have to be away from your family just to get the trash picked up.

So absolutely.

Uh Madam Chair, I do.

I want to let the council know is that one aspect or part of the state of the city is always what's on the horizon.

And that's where I talk about some things that uh could be coming forth.

And one of the items that I I've mentioned to all of you just informally is that I'm gonna be making the announcement that in my budget that I present to you next year is I'm gonna be recommending that we um entertain uh having a fees feasibility study done to actually uh create a transfer station for the disposal of solid waste and recycling.

I think we've reached the point where you know we're paying $26 a ton right now where we were, I don't know, six, seven years ago when we had the waste energy, we were around twelve to fourteen dollars per ton, and they needed major improvements, and it was simply just it was it was cost prohibitive to be able to continue.

Plus, we use our trucks that we collect trash in to drive to drive, we were with to West Hall.

So now we're driving to the landfill, and I think there's opportunities for partnerships with other cities and other counties to actually do to be more effective and efficient in the way we dispose our solid waste.

And under Jerry's leadership and with Kenny Schwab, I want to recommend that we actually engage a feasibility study to see exactly what it would cost to implement such an initiative with the purchase of the land, what will be required for the building, the layout, and so forth.

And so I'm gonna make that announcement at the state of the city next year is that something will be on the horizon.

So I want to share that with you.
