The county is as far as the county development side, we have no objections to it.

Uh they purchased this property and rezoned it back in 2021 from Agg to Business B3 Heavy Business District.

Um with the intentions of opening a contractor shop, developing a contractor shop down on the property for their excavation business.

Um rock concrete, asphalt, crushing.

Uh we defined it and we defined the districts that it would be allowable in on the city side, it would be allowed in an I1 and I2 district as well as egg districts as we allow gravel mining operations in the egg district.

In this particular case, um Austrian kind of got caught in a pickle there in that uh portion of their business is the concrete crushing, and it is a sustainable um reuse of of uh spilled concrete.

It it works really well in the construction industry for base course for roads as well as building sites.

Um however, it is a conditional use in the I-1 district.

Uh the applicant is simply trying to rezone the property to I-1 and then pursue a conditional use so that he's in compliance with the zoning ordinance.

And so the first step in the process is uh to seek the appropriate rezoning to I-1 so that he makes sure that he's compliant with the zoning ordinance um for the city of Brookings because it is within the joint jurisdiction area.
