Public Comments & Testimony
- Steve Sachs, former Major League Baseball player (17 years, including Los Angeles Dodgers), testified that a free heart scan through the Broward Heart Project revealed 95–99% blockage in his four major arteries, leading to a quadruple bypass. He stated the test saved his life and thanked the commission for funding the program. He noted that his father died of the same condition in 1983, and he chose to have surgery on June 10 to change the family narrative from death to renewal.
- A pre-recorded video from Barry and Amy Smith described that Amy Smith had no symptoms but a free heart scan detected stage one lung cancer. She had surgery and is now cancer‑free; they urged others to get tested.

The motion was seconded, and a voice vote passed 8–1 to elect Bogan (one commissioner opposed).

- Reported that out of 7,000 people scanned, 4,000 needed medical intervention (medication, open‑heart surgery, stents) and an additional 350 had other medical issues detected.
- Introduced the “Bread Promise” (thebreadpromise.com): a program where a $5 donation provides a fresh loaf of bread delivered to homeless shelters and food pantries via the Broward Partnership for the Homeless (501c3). He committed 100 loaves per month, matched by the bakery, and encouraged community participation.
