Broward County Planning Council Regular Meeting and Public Hearing – January 29, 2026
The Broward County Planning Council held its regular meeting and public hearing on January 29, 2026, at 10:00 AM in Room 422 of the Governmental Center. The council unanimously approved all agenda items, including reappointments of officers, consent agenda, and five public hearing items. No members of the public signed up to speak aside from applicants and agents. The meeting also addressed scheduling changes for future meetings.
Consent Calendar
- C1: Approval of final agenda for January 29, 2026 – approved.

Discussion Items
- Reappointments: Commissioner Lamar P. Fisher and School Board Member Dr. Allen Zeman were reappointed to the council.
- Election of Officers: Chair Tommy DiGiorgio, Vice Chair Mayor Angelo Castillo, and Secretary Mayor Michelle Gomez were re-elected unanimously.
- Nominations to Executive Committee: The existing slate of officers plus at-large members (Mayor Brunson, Councilmember Horland, Mayor Levy, School Board Member Zeman) was approved unanimously.
- Council’s Report: The council attorney withdrew a request for a waiver of conflict, stating no conflict existed regarding representation of Hollywood. A legislative update highlighted SB 840: changes include moving the effective year from 2028 to 2027 and stricter rules on compatibility for municipalities; accessory dwelling units are also under consideration. Further updates will be provided at the next meeting.
- Executive Director’s Report:
- BrowardNext workshops: A December 10 workshop had about 85 attendees; a January 21 workshop was mostly canceled online but held in person with one attendee. No additional comments were received. The formal public hearing is scheduled for the April 2026 planning council meeting, with materials to be posted in two weeks.
- Meeting schedule: The February 26, 2026 meeting will start at 11:00 AM (instead of 10:00 AM) due to “Read for the Record” day, with lunch provided. The March 26, 2026 meeting will be canceled due to a county commission conflict and spring break; an emailed update on SB 840 will be provided to council members in March.

- Public Hearing Items (PH1–PH5): All five items were approved unanimously consistent with staff recommendations.
- PH1: Recertification of the Town of Davie Future Land Use Element – approved.
- PH2: Recertification of the City of Parkland Future Land Use Element – approved.
