The Broward County Commission convened on February 17, 2026, at 10:09 AM in Room 422 of the Broward County Governmental Center. The meeting, led by Mayor Mark Bogen, began with the Pledge of Allegiance, a moment of silence for several individuals, and the reading of the Tuesday Agenda Memorandum. The Commission approved a consent agenda of 27 items, with several pulled for separate discussion, and conducted three public hearings and supplemental items. Key actions included a resolution to prioritize expired CRA tax increment financing revenue for affordable housing and homeless needs, rejection of an unsolicited composting proposal, direction to formalize a Sister Port Program for Port Everglades, and adoption of a purchasing card program for commissioners.

And you would wonder why I may mention him in Broward County, because he also served as a state rep, and everything we do in Tallahassee is for the entire state of Florida. Edward Powell was a man of grace. He also passed wisdom and quiet strength, whose presence touched many lives. He leaved behind a grievan wife, and we offer a condolences to the family. Teddy J. McCall Sr. And this one was requested by the Vice Mayor of Aisha Gordon, Oakland Park in my district. Um six-to-five beloved husband, father, son, brother, and grandfather was born October eighteenth, nineteen sixty to the late Hattie May Sales and Larry McCall Jr. in Fort Lauderdale. Teddy was an Oakland Park local as he was well known throughout the city. He was very passionate about family and helping others. He found joy in making others laugh and wasn't afraid to speak his mind. But he is uh who's a good man from Chicago. Anyone else? Let us also uh honor all the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve in our armed forces, both here and abroad and thank them for their service. I I will say that when Governor DeSantis did the Doge report saying how Broward County had wasted millions or hundreds or gazillions of dollars. One of the specific examples he gave was our funding of the cultural arts. I respectfully disagree, funding of the cultural arts is not a waste of money. It is a demonstration by the county that we care about things. Today's musical selection will be hearing one additional piece from the South Florida Symphony Orchestra, musicians that will be playing our We Fang Chen on violin, David Kurteck on violin, Rosa Ortega, Ianelli on the viola, and Kevin Phillip Jones on the cello.
