The Brunswick Town Council met on August 17, 2026, to discuss a range of items including a proposed Main Street Overlay District, amendments to mobile home park ordinances, adoption of an emergency medical services transport plan, confirmation of a finance director, a resolution on firearms in municipal buildings, appointments to a rent review board, and a motion regarding the public works fuel system contract. The meeting included public comments on traffic, parking, and development, as well as extensive debate on several agenda items. Key decisions were made, including passage of a motion to delay the petroleum system contract and negotiate with the contractor.

Thank you, everyone. Good evening, everyone, and welcome back to our August seventeenth, twenty twenty-six uh town council meeting. Thank you for bearing with us. I know that we're coming back from executive session a little bit later, so I appreciate your patience. Um, at this time, I'll remind folks to please silence your electronic devices if you have not already done so. You can do some airplane mode, little silence button, whatever's most helpful for you. Um, and then please rise if you are willing and able for the Pledge of Allegiance. As chair that I ask while we hold this space together that we uh treat every person here with respect and compassion as we work to better our town. Item number one oh nine is going to read to consider a motion to direct the town manager to take steps necessary to delay the start of work on the contract executed January one, twenty twenty-six for a replacement petroleum system at nine Industry Road, and to negotiate with a contractor on revised contract terms. Of course, nobody knew him as Charles. We knew him as Charlie. Charlie was one of Brunswick's finest kind. He passed on July 28th, surrounded by the love of his family. Quite the guy in a Brunswick stalwart with his loving spouse Patricia, only known as Pat, Ryan, and his two daughters. Charlie graduated from Dart Dartmouth College and the University of Maine School of Law of Law. He was a veteran, a Vietnam War veteran. He was a Brunswick Town Councillor and Chair of the Council. He represented Brunswick for 14 years in the state legislature. And the last four of which he was the chair of the Judiciary Committee passing really important legislation. For the last two decades, Charlie has been chair of the Brunswick Sewer Board of Trustees and done an extra an outstanding job there. Charlie was one of my mentors when I was first in Maine, for which I will be ever grateful. There was no moment that I spent with Charlie that I did not find helpful and delightful. And rest in peace, Charlie, my friend. Thank you. Thank you. Other counselors with announcements. The only announcement I'll make is that you are uh we are bumping right at the time, the deadline for the social services funding uh application. So if you are a nonprofit that is serving the basic needs of Brunswick residents, um the application is due, I believe, by the 27th of August. It's right on the Brunswick Town website. If you go under boards and committees and find Social Services Committee, um you can find the application there. Uh yes, it is due Thursday, August 27th, confirmed.
