The Bullhead City Parks and Recreation Commission met on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. in City Council Chambers. All commission members were present except Commissioners Eamon and Stro Snyder. There was no public input. The commission heard the Parks & Recreation Superintendent's report, approved the April 17, 2024 meeting minutes, reviewed the commission bylaws, and elected officers for the 2024-2025 city fiscal year.
Parks & Recreation Superintendent's Report
- Recreation Superintendent Dave Heath reported upcoming events, including an AFA Girls Fastpitch Softball tournament on August 23-24 at Rotary Park and Ken Fovargue Park; Bullhead City's 40th birthday celebration on August 25 at Community Park with free park and ramada entry, music, jet ski and wakeboard shows, water slides, food trucks, and a beer garden; Senior Games chair volleyball training on August 30; Fun Believable Friday events; MCC Bighorn Soccer games; and a POW/MIA Recognition Day service on September 20 at Veterans Park.
- Heath reviewed the city's FY2024-25 parks and recreation capital improvement budget, stating that a total of $7,490,800.11 is budgeted for parks and recreation projects. Major items included: $650,000 for Bullhead City Middle School athletic field improvements; $900,000 for the Community Park land purchase; $1.9 million for a new restroom at the south end of Community Park; $750,000 for the Rotary Park fishing pier; $500,000 for Rotary Park skate park rehabilitation; and $1,478,500 for a UTV/ATV trailhead at the corner of the Parkway and Silver Creek Road. He said the budget is transparent and available online.
- A commissioner asked about the skate park timeline. Heath said the city is still evaluating the project, noting that concrete prices have risen since budgeting and that consultants are being consulted.

Ready? All right, good evening. It is Wednesday, August 21st, and this is our Bullhead City Parks and Recreation Commission meeting. We're called this meeting to order. Roll call. All commission members are present except for Commissioner Eamon and Stro Snyder. All right. Pledge of allegiance. All right. Open call to the public. Nobody. No presentations. All right. Parks and recreation. Dave, you have a report. Yes, I do. Thank you very much, madam vice chair. Umfortunately, neither of our two new members are here, so you guys all kind of know the drill. I won't go on to explain it, but next meeting, I'll explain it to them kind of how this works. Um we're going to start out with the uh upcoming tournaments and events we've got coming up between now and the next meeting. Um, August 23rd and 24th this weekend. AFA's girls fast pitch softball is running a softball tournament at uh Rotary Park at the fourplex and the triplex, and they're also gonna be using a couple of fields at Ken Fovarg Park. Um that's for a girls eight to eighteen years old. August 25th, we're gonna have our Bullhead City 40th birthday celebration at community park, and I'm gonna hand it over to TB4 to run a little video about that right now. We're taking it back to 1984 for Bullhead City's 40th birthday bash on Sunday, August 25th. It's gonna be a bodacious day for the entire family. We're rocking community park all day long with no park entry fees and no Ramada fees. This party has some killer tunes too. Jam out to GJ Loki and don't miss the ultimate 80s tribute band, the spasmatics! They rock. Get your spot by the river for the totally tubular jet ski demo, wakeboard stunt show, and the hydro flight water show finale. Kids can cool off on gnarly water slides, sprinkler row, and make 80s themed crafts. Need some grub? Dude, we've got you totally covered with tasty food trucks and a beer garden. And the dot foods free food pavilion opens at 5 p.m. Don't miss the beach party of the summer, Sunday, August 25th, Bullhead City's community park. It's gonna rock. Uh then on the 30th, we have our senior games chair volleyball training. We're doing something a little bit different this year with uh senior games. We're we're doing little training sessions throughout the year to get people ready for the events, and um and we've had a couple so far, and we've got a couple more coming up. Uh on the 30th, we're gonna have volleyball or chair volleyball training at Fort Mojave Wellness Center at 11 a.m. And if you haven't seen or tried chair volleyball before, I encourage you to go down there and check it out. It is a lot of fun, and anybody can do it. Also, on the 30th of August, we're gonna have another in our fun believable Friday series. This one's gonna be a Lego build and play at 11 a.m. at the recreation division office at 2285 train road.
