The Bullhead City Council held its regular meeting on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. in City Council Chambers. All seven council members were present. The agenda included consent items, public hearings on a zoning map change and multiple time extensions for building permits, property acquisition, contract ratification, a fence code amendment, a senior center expansion grant, adoption of the fee schedule, and a discussion on cell tower locations. The meeting also featured a manager’s report on a missing child search, budget clarifications, bridge opening details, and summer safety, as well as council member reports and extensive public comments.
Good evening, everybody. This is Tuesday, May 21st, 2024. It's 5 30 p.m. our regular scheduled council meeting. Could I get a roll call, please? All council members are present. All right, we're gonna call this meeting to order. We're starting with the invocation from Captain John Burks from Salvation Army. If you'd like to join us, please stand. Mayor, City Council members, staff. Let's pray. Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you so much for today. I just ask that you'll uh continue to bless our city and uh bless uh those that uh have taken leadership. Uh we thank you for everyone who uh is able to attend and uh show their concerns as well as um the excitement of uh what's to come. We thank you for blessing our city, and we just ask that you'll continue to do it. We love you in Jesus' name. Amen. Thank you. I pledge allegiance. Undergone indivisible. Please be seated. All right, we start tonight with a call to the public. If you're speaking as a group, you have five minutes. The group must be with you, little snow in advance. Otherwise, you have three minutes. With that being said, who'd like to come up first? Uh good evening. My name is Denise Atwater Valen, Mayor D'Amico, City Council members, and Mr. Cotter. I've addressed the council members several times this year to promote the daughters of the American Revolution's project America 250. The project includes a monument and ceremony to be rung in the uh 250th anniversary of our freedom. Many community organizations and businesses have helped us to bring this to fruition. Tonight, I would just like the council to think about granting permission in the future uh to add one last accoutrement or item of equipment to this monument. The addition will be a cohorn mortar. It is 12 pounds full scale with a two-inch inoperable bore. Not to obscure the grandeur of the monument, but to add eye candy to a most memorable period in our history. It will sit upon a metal carriage and the park uh and the park service will secure it into the ground in cement to the left of the monument. While traveling in many battlegrounds and memorial sites, I have been intrigued by the presence of mortars and canyon cannons at these venues. This is a donation by my family, and the preparation of the carriage will also include be included in the cost. I ask you to consider later on another date the beauty of the mortar that was at one time light artillery used in several revolutionary battles during a siege, such as the Battle of Stony Point and Newtown, both in New York and under the guidance of General George Washington's command and the Continental Army. Our meetings give our community the opportunity to hear the candidates during the this election year. Our guest speakers will be Constable Candidates, Michael Van Vallette.
