Well so uh so Commissioner Garza actually brought uh this to me uh a week or so ago, and he had been approached uh by a constituents uh regarding the traffic issues that uh potentially are out on uh Yano Astacado and Shay Lane.

And so in front of you, you should have the Google Earth imagery of it.

Uh you can see obviously where Shady Lane sits, basically across from Lowe's grocery store.

Uh we have driveway access points, obviously for Lowe's on the north side.

Uh Buffalo Wild Wings and Chipotle have a access point onto Yano.

Uh Soapy Springs has access on the Yano, the real estate agency and the the um business center there have two driveway access points, and then I believe it's Mamacitas also has an access point.

And so the question became uh is how could we uh potentially reduce turning conflicts and movements uh within that area.

Uh we do currently have medians uh when the DOT redid Prince Street uh north of Yano, they installed the median uh to the north there on Prince Street, uh to the west on Yano.

Uh there the DOT has a median uh on the west side there.

And uh this is something similar in a question uh about what we're to address on 21st Street and Prince by trying to control those access points.

Uh looking at it, uh I the the only recommendation and looking how far back we would need to take it uh would be going from uh basically from from Prince Street to the east to about the second driveway approach uh for the lowest grocery store, the one that is furthest to the east.

Um and that way that that particular driveway could be still have all full range of movements, shady lane would still have full range of movements.

Uh the business center uh would be able to obviously the ones that are going out onto Yano Estacado, those would basically become right in, right outs.

Uh if they use their access point that goes off of Shady Lane, uh that would give them full access once they got into onto Shady Lane.

Soapy Springs, uh the one that exits out onto Yano would become a ride in right out effectively.

Then they also have the access point out onto Prince Street south of Yano, uh, so they could get every direction out of that business as well.

Uh same with uh once you go to the north side with Lowe's, and so uh that's that's the only thing I can think of to address that at this time.

I don't have a cost on it to see what it would would cost us to put that into place.

Uh the other thing that we could consider doing is I mentioned uh we had previously applied for municipal arterial program fundings from the DOT for 21st Street and Prince.

Only two parking spaces will be lost. Speed limit is 30 mph, not 25 as some thought.
    • Purdue and Eccles: Storm drain work progressing; on schedule for August completion.
    • Goodwin Trails Playground: Excavation and curbing poured; playground equipment similar to Dennis Chavez and Ryerson parks.
    • Funding: Received MAP funds for 21st Street and Prince; submitted TPF projects for 21st Street from Wheaton to MLK (ranked first), 21st Street from Prince to Norris (ranked second), and Main Street from 21st to 8th (middle of pack). District has about $12 million available.

  • Schools Update (Jay Brady):

    • Transitions: I Academy moving to Clovis Freshman Academy, freshman moving to high school. Demo work at CHS A and B buildings. New electronic sign at freshman academy.
    • Marshall Sixth Grade Academy auditorium converted to performing arts center.
    • Barry Phase 2 winding down.
    • Renovation of Clovis High School Freshman Academy for training center; demo of Cameo building expected in 1.5 years.
    • Youth programs: Free camps in June for art, performing arts, sports; basketball had 1,000 K-5 participants; indoor soccer planned for winter.
    • Coaching hires: Most positions filled; new athletic director starting next week.
    • Graduation Parking Issues: Commissioner Moore raised complaints about handicapped access, towing, and poor communication. Jay Brady acknowledged problems and pledged to improve coordination with the city, event center, police, and public works for next year. Clint Bunch noted his crews were berated and suggested involving the event center in parking management. The committee stressed the need for multi-agency meetings before future graduations.
