The Clovis Civil Aviation Board met on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at 5:30 PM in the North Annex, 701 N. Main, Clovis, NM. The board approved the minutes from the July 1, 2025 meeting, received a comprehensive director’s report on airport operations and projects, and heard one public comment. The next regular meeting is scheduled for January 6, 2026.
We didn't think that uh we were gonna have much luck hiring general surgeons. There's really not a whole lot of there's not an abundance of general surgeons because nobody wants to be a general surgeon, they all want to be a neurosurgeon or uh cardiac surgeon or some kind of some kind of specialty. And uh but we've uh golly, we we have three uh general surgeons uh now. One guy has been a professor of surgery at the University of Arkansas for the last thirty years, and uh he and the other two guys are and one other guy, they switch out, but that guy knows everything about robots and you know, any anything's new he knows because he's teaching those teaching it to those kids uh at the University of Arkansas. It's we we've really we've really really really been blessed with providers. Uh I never thought I was gonna be a real fan of uh they call them advanced care providers, nurse practitioners and physicians assistants. But uh that works, you know. A lot of those people they're they don't have an MD degree, but they do have a doctor's degree and whatever the specialty is. My wife goes to uh arthritis specialist in Amarello. Uh it's a doctor, young doctor young MD lady and a nurse practitioner that works with her who has a doctorate. And uh we love them both, but uh I would when we go in there, I would just as soon my wife see the nurse practitioners I would uh the MD. I think she's every bit as good a provider as the as the MD. You know, sort some things you they have to be MDs. You know, you don't particularly want a nurse provider doing neurosurgery, but you know, they can fill the gap and take the load off so they could uh the heavy duty MDs can take care of the heavy duty stuff. Exactly. That's exactly right. But Dr. Lugo filled that gap real nicely. I'm really impressed with it. Well he had uh you know it's pretty amazing that a doctor that had a practice on Fifth Avenue in New York City's gotta is in Clubus, New Mexico. You know, that's that says quite a bit for Dr. Lugo. I he's an interesting guy. Uh for doctor's day, we were trying to figure out what we were gonna give the providers for doctors day, and uh just somebody came up with the idea. We'll we'll give them stethoscopes and engrave their name on them. Some of the docs were going, ah we don't want to do that. Every doctor's got this got their stethoscope and they like the one they have, you know. And Dr. Lugo said I have an idea. He said, uh you're right. I have a stethoscope. I like my stethoscope. But uh he said I would like to have one with my name engraved on it. I like my stethoscope, but uh he said I would like to have one with my name engraved on it where when I have a rep and an usually good resident, a great nurse, uh an anathesiologist, you know, somebody that's helping me operate. I would like to have that where I could hand that to them, and it's kind of a pass it forward deal that in ten years and they're operating on their working on somebody, and they look at that stethoscope, and there my name is. They they'll know that I appreciated what they did for me and my patients. He uh he's he comes across a little bit crouchy uh initially, but he's really a nice man. Oh yeah, he's very thorough, and he's kind of has that grandfatherly professional. Yeah, but I was I was impressed with him. You know, I had to see him last fall for routine stuff, and then he uh I had an earn yeah in April. Really? He was Dr. Takur. Oh my god. He's the nephrologist. Typically you I think I have because I have as a matter of fact, I gotta go do a follow-up with him. He's probably gonna belly. Well he uh he's a car nut. But yeah, nothing like that. He has two electric cars.
