So I wanted to let everybody know that we did receive a um our grant agreement for our uh passenger vehicle.

Um so we received a grant agreement for 175,000.

Um I'll be going out to um I'll be working with our procurement officer at uh City Hall to get uh to get a vehicle purchased and on its way.

So hopefully within the next 365 days or so.

We'll have a vehicle.

We'll see how long it'll take them to get it.

Um I also wanted to let everybody know that this Saturday we are um the New Mexico Martin Luther King Commission uh reached out to the city about holding a uh 2026 building the beloved community ceasefire and space for nonviolence.

And so we are um we are very proud to be um part of this, and we're gonna be opening our center from one to four on Saturday.

Um Holly Aragon from Kill Me Now, just Kill Me Now is going to be at the center providing a um uh painting class, and so we're looking forward to it.

We're gonna have cookies and some hot cocoa.

We're gonna set out some dominoes and board games so that if anybody wants to just stop in and um and uh uh show show their support.

And so we'll be open from one to four that day.

Uh I do want to see if you can save the date on uh May the 6th, we will be hosting our non-igenarian celebration.

And this year we're gonna change it up a little bit.

We've had a fiesta the last couple of years, so this year we are doing the roaring twenties.

We're we're gonna be hosting that at 2 p.m.

Non-Igenarian celebration is for seniors who have reached 90 plus years of age, and we would like for them to come out and celebrate with us.

Clovis Senior Services Committee Meeting - March 12, 2026

The Clovis Senior Services Committee met on March 12, 2026, at the North Annex. The meeting was called to order at 1:30 p.m. with roll call and approval of the January 15, 2026 minutes.   • Senior Services Report (Ms. Regan):

    • Received a grant agreement for $175,000 for a passenger vehicle; working with procurement to purchase.
    • Announced the "Building the Beloved Community" event on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hillcrest Park, including the zoo (free admission), lunch, step camp, open mic, and a painting class at the senior center.
    • Non-igenarian (90+) celebration on May 6, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Senior Life Center, themed "Roaring Twenties."
    • Applied for the New Mexico Grown grant; received $15,000 last year for produce and meat. Leftover funds will be used for a "Stew in a Bag" event on March 26, 2026 at 1 p.m. for the first 100 seniors.
    • MIL site assessment on January 29, 2026 resulted in zero findings. Statistics for the year: 237 new assessments, 509 reassessments, 696 congregate diners, 174 homebound seniors, 22,371 congregate meals, 37,494 homebound meals. A video from Hobbs, NM was shown highlighting the value of meal services.

  • Hillcrest Senior Life Center Report (Ms. Smith):

    • Upcoming March events: Spanish bingo (March 23), movie and popcorn (March 13), senior showdown with Nerf guns (March 18), mystery game (March 19), birthday celebration (March 27).
    • April events: Zumba workout (April 2, 16, 30), flower pot craft (April 6), mystery bingo (April 7), walking with peeps (April 9 and 23), chair volleyball (April 9), hanger art craft (April 13), mini golf (April 16), rock painting (April 20), seniors vs. employee showdown (April 23), clothes pin art (April 27), fear factor games (April 30).

  • Baxter Curran Report (Ms. Coslett):

    • Garage sale fundraiser on Saturday, March 14, 2026 starting at 8 a.m. at Baxter.
    • Regular activities: Mexican Train potluck every Saturday at 4 p.m., Monday night potluck at 5 p.m., quilting, sewing, pinochle.
    • April 17: dance to kick off annual car show; car show on April 18 from 8 a.m. to end of day, with vendors, food trucks, and trophies.

  • La Casa Transportation:

    • Free transportation for seniors 60+ to various locations (library, tax appointments, etc.). Registration required.

  • 50+ Olympics (Ms. Coslett):

    • Last registration day Tuesday, March 16 at Hillcrest Senior Center. $25 fee covers t-shirt (sponsored by Bank of Clovis), banquet on May 2 at McDaniels building, and all equipment. Events begin April 7 with 8-ball pool at La Casa, followed by cornhole, bowling (added this year), and others. Participants can do up to 10 events.

  • RSVP / Foster Grandparent Program (Barbara, on behalf of Casey Sendeck):

    • Curry County has an open Senior Programs Manager position. Contact Casey Sendeck at csendek@currycountynm.gov or 575-763-6016 ext. 820.
    • Current volunteers: 85 RSVP, 12 senior companions, 7 foster grandparents; still seeking foster grandparents.
    • In February, RSVP volunteers worked 1,720 hours. New volunteer station added at Cannon Air Force Base Airmen's Attic.

  • NMAA (New Mexico Aging and Long-Term Services Department):

    • Case management resources and a volunteer driver specialist are available at the senior center. Contact information available at the front desk.

  • Income Tax Assistance:

    • Roy Walker has completed over 600 returns. The North Annex (formerly Baxter) site has completed 300 returns, with appointments booked through April 7. Eastern New Mexico University site completed 155 returns. A team also goes to Tucumcari four times; appointments are made through the library.
