The regular meeting of the Clovis-Carver Library Board was called to order at 5:30 PM on Monday, July 27, 2026, at the North Annex, 701 N. Main, Clovis, NM. Board members were present, a quorum was established, and student representative Everett Tatum was introduced.
Consent Calendar
- Approval of Minutes: The minutes of the April 27, 2026 meeting were approved by voice vote without corrections.
- Nonprofit Board Chair Appointment: Commissioner Bender was appointed Chair of the Clovis-Carver Non-Profit Organization Board for the upcoming term (motion and second; voice vote all in favor).

- Commissioner O'Brien announced a City of Clovis public meeting on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 5:30 PM at the Colonial Golf Course.
Summer Reading Activities
- Miss Hinchy reported on the “Unearth a Story” summer reading program, which has been the best in her 16 years. Key statistics (through June):
- Children’s programming: 1,700 attendees
- Adult programming: nearly 400 attendees
- The program runs through Friday, July 31, 2026.
- Additional library statistics for April–June 2026:
- 13,000 books circulated
- 7,000 digital titles circulated
- 19,000 visitors
- $1,700 in notary fees
- 19 users on 12 public computers (computers being replaced; currently only 5 operational)
- Fall 2026 programming will include movies, Lego Club, STEM Club, Anime/Manga Club, a pet sleepover, and afternoon story times.
Staff Updates
- A new reference librarian joined in May.
- Inventory of over 140,000 volumes is nearly complete.
2024 GO Bond Update
- The library will receive $129,000 in GO Bond funds in November 2026, with spending required by approximately April 2028.
- Funds must be used for patron‑use items (not salaries, swag, or capital outlay). Planned purchases include a smart board, library materials, and replacement furniture.
- Discussion: Board members expressed concern about restrictive spending parameters. After discussion, the board agreed to draft a letter to the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs and the Municipal League to seek wider usage of GO Bond funds.

Also would like to introduce uh Everett Tatum. He's our new uh student representative from the high school. And give him a couple of minutes, maybe to introduce himself and tell us what grade he's in and what interest he has in the library. Yeah, so I'm uh going to the eleventh grade. My name is Everett Tatum. I'm Gracie Tatum's brother, so I'm a replacement. And yeah, um back when it was a while ago, but I the mommy's day out thing, I'm not sure if you all see that, but I used to that a lot and it was really fun. So it was my sister was a good experience, so I thought I'd try it out. So yeah. Good. Well, great. We're glad to have you on the board. Thank you. Appreciate your interest.
