The Columbus Redevelopment Commission met on September 21, 2026, to consider a $3 million commitment to the Crump Center for the Performing Arts, approve meeting minutes and claims, and receive updates on major downtown infrastructure and development projects.
Open. So we'll have a full season in 2029 that will then start working forward for our operating. So that's high level. We feel really good about it and the place that we're moving. On with that is a bit more about the timeline when we say we um there's there's a lot happening really fast. Um and but I want to preface this is the timeline we've had since 2024 or five, um, which was in the fall fall of 26 was when we um finished up our schematic design. But we sat there for a bit with the architects thinking, let's not go for it until we have an idea if the funding's there. So we're in design development phase. We're going through some historic reviews with SHIPO, hiring the con um the construction manager, and um also continuing to start building out our business plan. We'll move into construction documents and bidding with spring hopefully breaking ground. It's a 14 to 16 month construction window. Our goal being to have our grand opening in the fall of 28. Um, this timeline is pretty secure in the sense that it has to be within the ready money. Uh ready puts a timeline on us, and all dollars out must be spent by the end of 2028. So we're um we're a fast moving machine, but we're not moving so fast that we're losing sight. We're moving at the speed we always plan to move. Um part of that being that business planning, design support, transition planning. You'll start to hear a bit from Meg and our AMS team as we start working with um the arts organizations in town to figure out what does programming look like, what makes most sense for Columbus? So there'll be a lot more to come, but um, we're moving moving forward with a solid plan for opening in 28. So what's next? I I just went through a lot of this. Um we're in our our archaeological phase, cost estimating, continued fundraising, public support, and hopefully moving forward after this meeting to city council. Um so thanks for hearing us as I left the house today. I told my girls maybe someday we can have a theater and you guys can go and listen to really awesome live music in our backyard. So they've already sold popcorn there. They have sold popcorn and tickets. So thanks for having us. And like I said, any questions? We have quite a team on screen. Um thanks for joining us, all of you. Much appreciated. And as I said before, uh, we still need money. So we don't want this request to come forward with the sense that this is it and we're done. We haven't even launched our public capital campaign yet as well. So we will be doing due diligence on our end and still fundraising. If you haven't heard from us, you will. Anybody that's out there. Yeah. I'm telling you. Yeah, yeah. So thank you. Um questions from the commission. Maybe high level talk a little bit about the programming discussions that you've had initially just maybe without without a little lie. You got to kind of narrow that down. Yeah. You want to do that. Yeah. So in our initial modeling uh that we did, we took a uh a look at other comparable size theaters and trying to look at the the mix that they have of any kind of nonprofit or or free events versus like all the way up to a high dollar ticketed event for a touring artist. Uh one of our goals here throughout the design process is to make sure this is turnkey for touring musicians to come through, not just regionally, like national touring artists. Uh, but we also want this to be a venue accessible to all.
