Danbury Planning Commission Meeting - August 29, 2026
The Danbury Planning Commission met on August 29, 2026, at 4:30 PM. The meeting lasted approximately 10 minutes and covered the approval of corrected minutes, a referral for the disposition of city property at 37 Locust Avenue, and the cancellation of the next scheduled meeting.
Consent Calendar
- The minutes of the June 17, 2026 meeting were approved as corrected (a typo changing 'Mr.' to 'Mrs.' for Helen was corrected).
Discussion Items
- Referral 824: Disposition of City Property at 37 Locust Avenue – Deputy Planning Director Jennifer Aminger presented the referral. The property is the former Water Witch Hose Company firehouse, a 2,100 sq ft building on a 4,100 sq ft lot in the R-3 zone. The building is non-conforming and likely requires variances. Staff has no objection to the sale. Commissioners discussed the process: the property would be evaluated for city use, then possibly sold at auction, similar to the North Street firehouse. Questions were raised about potential uses (single-family, two-family), zoning limits, and the appraisal process. The commission voted unanimously for a positive referral.
Key Outcomes
- The Planning Commission voted unanimously (all in favor) to issue a positive referral for the sale of 37 Locust Avenue.
- The next regular meeting scheduled for August 19, 2026 was canceled due to no new business.

Commission members, unless there is a uh discussion or any questions, I'll entertain a motion to uh accept those minutes. Mr. Chairman, Helen just notified me of a typo. I called her a Mr. instead of a Mrs. So I'm going to correct it. So if you just want to accept the corrected minutes, that'll be okay. Thank you. I'll entertain a motion to accept the uh corrected minutes as per Joanne. I I will do that, sir. I uh I I say yes. That's a thank you, Helen. I'll second. Second, Mr. Kyokio, any discussion? All in favor, please say aye. Aye. The minutes are accepted. Let the record chart. Next regular meeting is scheduled for August 19th, 2026. Looking at our agenda, we have no public hearings, no continuation of public hearings, or no old business for discussion and possible action. So we will move right to the referrals, 824 referral. City council agenda item 11, disposition of city property, water which hosts company 37. I'm sorry, 37 Locust Avenue J12123. Uh the planning department staff has been submitted. Um I believe, Jennifer, this goes to you. Uh yes, Mr. Chairman. Thank you. Uh for the record, Jennifer Aminger, deputy planning director. Um, and first I wanted to thank everyone for kind of doing the special meeting. Um, so we can kind of dispense with this uh pretty quickly. Um, so um my staff report was very short and sweet. Um, there's really not much to this referral. Um, so this is the old uh water which hose company. Excuse me, uh 37 Locastow.
