Hi everyone.

Um yeah, sorry, I wanted to be there in person but couldn't do it today.

Um so I I recently, just a couple of weeks ago, I um had a group of friends from college who traveled to Utah for a photography trip, and they wanted me to join them.

So I was very busy, but uh and I also had not done photography in a while.

So I felt kind of reluctant to go along.

But eventually I was very guilty that I had not seen them for over five years, and this would have been a great time to bond.

So I quickly bought a camera and learned to how to use it and all that, and then I joined them.

So I I'm glad I did that because it was the best time of my life visiting places that I had probably I would have never thought about going alone and uh ended up shooting about 600 landscape pictures.

Which still needs editing.

So it's all sitting on my uh hard drive law.

But um so one of those readings as we were camping in a remote area in the um in a reservation.

Um I found out that one of my friends, one of them had gone through a very tough time last year with an L.

So I felt bad that I had not known about it and had not reached out to him.

So when I asked him why he didn't tell me earlier, he simply said, uh I didn't want to bother you, you are quite busy.

So that stunned a little bit because not that I was upset with uh that he did ask, but because I realized that he didn't see me as someone he could lean on.

Right.

So that got me thinking about friendships and how we need to nurture them.

So I had a quick thought about that.

So I wrote down a few lines to share with you guys.

Um we don't build trust by offering help.

We build it by asking for it.

So I'll repeat that we don't build trust by offering to help.

We build it by asking for help.

So it sounds a little backward, uh, but most of us have been taught that being helpful makes us trustworthy.

And uh but think about what really happens when we ask someone for help.

So we as a Draco City, we talk about so many projects where we are helping others and helping uh our neighborhood and community and so on, right?

So we really think that helping others is really important, right?

But then sometimes we need to step back and think about it in a different way.

So when we do, when we ask someone for help, we are saying I trust you.

I trust your time, I trust your judgment, I trust your kindness.

Um we are kind of letting our guard down and and acting a little vulnerable in that moment.

That that's what's renders the bond with another person.

So maybe next time you need help, we need help, even with something small.

Maybe we should try asking.

We often hesitate to do that.

Um give someone the chance to show up for you.

It doesn't make you weak.

It tells them, tells others that you trust them enough to let them in.

Um because real trust isn't built by constantly giving.

It's built in those honest human moments when we say, I can't do this alone.

Will you help me?

So that's all I wanted to share.

That's a good reminder, because we all think we need to do it alone sometimes, or if we can we're strong enough and but we can go further when we go together.

And I think many of us need help and we many of us are wanting to help, but there are also many who need help.

They are probably struggling and suffering.

But we we often don't want to ex uh admit that and ask for help.

So I think yeah, it's a good part that we should try and do that as well.

Uminda, can you just tell us what's coming up on the uh the holiday recognition and yeah, uh this month, just a few days ago, we published a video um about the Sokani Preserve in conjunction with Indigenous People's Day.

And that turned out really well.

I don't know if everyone's had a chance.

I thought it was really good.

Did anybody say that?

Um our communication specialist Alex and our our digital media specialist Asia managed that.

So I wasn't involved until I saw the final product and I was super impressed because they involved the state people and you know the archaeologists and the Native American representatives.

So if you haven't had a chance to see that, it's on our YouTube channel.

Um and then coming and then we did share about the Hispanic um American Heritage Month, and that was just a rerun of the video uh that we shot last year.

We shared that again.

Coming up, uh we were wondering if anyone would have a point of contact or be willing to participate in a spotlight on Duwali, and then also the day of the dead.

And if if there's not committee members that have contacts for that, we can just pursue that.

But it's Melanie we might do a good job with that.

Melanie um would or not, I don't know.

Mallory emailed she at class tonight, but um I think she sent something in the what do you have in mind for Tiwali?

We thought we we thought we would share uh a video this time instead.

I think previously we just did like a series of graphics that talk about the tradition and different ways to celebrate locally.

Um so just you know, whoever wants to share maybe a more personal experience with it.

Oh, it is basically the date is 20th, so this weekend is Monday, yeah.

The city determined that it wasn't going to work for employee schedules to have employees participate regularly.

Um just because of the lunch breaks are really only 30 minutes.

And so I mean, for most people only take 30 minute breaks.

So I followed up with our Meals and Wheels contact at Salt Lake County, and she was really thrilled with the response from Draper residents, and they were able to fill all the extra shifts they were looking to fill.

But if any committee members are ever interested in helping, I can pass on contact information.

And they're always looking off and on.

So you're welcome to share my information.

I don't know if that might be something we want to see if they have any means if they need some volunteers or something.

We can just maybe put that information out.

I think we're gonna have one of our Miss Draper be like um an interview interviewer and talk about their needs and ahead of the holidays.

Oh yeah that was for the proclamation for the proclamation we do have it on the agenda um wonderful I think Nicole just pulled a template from somewhere but I'll send her yours too it's probably the same thing if she pulled up from world kindness I think she kind of yeah yeah she she showed it to me and she said she'd yeah change it and so but um but I'll make sure with her tomorrow but we do have that on the agenda.

So what we'll read it um we have two we have two um proclamations for the next meeting we have world kindness day and then um we have um extra mile hero there that's also a day in November where we pick an extra mile hero and and um so he'll have he'll just read the proclamations back to back and just kind of and it says what the day is and you know so um so it it is so world kindness day and the uh kindness week that proclamation is the one that the kindness week is the one we're talking about correct okay I yeah I think so we'll confirm um is that something that they sign is this being done at the um typically just the mayor just reads the proclamation in the council meeting and says you know declares this week as kindness week that type thing okay and so is it okay to tend sure and take photos and just at a rate the regular council council meeting yeah and um what time is that at it would be at seven that's the seven and that should be near the beginning of the meeting 7 p.m October 21st and just here at Draper City Hall.

Alright that's exciting and then um do we do we want to talk about what we're doing for that yeah I don't know do we know yes I think I was out of town last yeah that's when you guys did it last year the the heart with the chocolate right was that work or was that well that would be randomized of kind of that was that worked okay now um kind of sweet core but I mean that they have you know there's a bunch of suggestions like you know blood drives and and you know citations from the police on on you know catching people doing good things or you know people in the community doing positive things and and making out um I mean there's all kinds of things that could we could do and some of the things we've talked about as a committee too.

Would you look comfortable with making like a post about world kindness things oh yeah and things maybe mentioning some different things you could do for your neighbors or something.

Yeah we can definitely do that.

I'm trying to build figure out a way to bring it like more live like um unfortunately this time of year you don't always catch a lot of people out of the parks but if we catch people on at parks or trails and just kind of ask them like what's something kind that someone has done for you and just put together a compilation of those things um time is tight though.

I wonder if that did the high school has like any stories about what they're leadership theme or something.

Yeah I wonder we'll see what we can do at the very least we'll we'll post about it.

Does the youth committee there's a youth committee right in draper do they do things like that.

You know they do a lot of service I mean they just last week they just went and weeded the cemetery and um yeah they said it was really nice.

Because at first I was like I I couldn't think of the weeds at the cemetery but then they were like they they did all the headstones which was really nice.

They weeded all around the headstones um so they do service projects like that.

So it'd be nice to share I mean spotlight some of those things that that people are doing um if they have any pictures I guess or you know maybe nominating somebody that's doing you know a kindness hero or whatever.

I know the time is time but yeah do you have the extra mile heroes?

We don't have it yet.

Oh okay.

Because we see so much negative you know the more we can see the positive stuff um and recognize that I think it lifts people up it also helps them to be inspired to do something else.

Yeah we'll try we can think about it can I propose something yeah so this is last year we did the chocolates right for this kindness.

Well we think that was for the random acts of kindness in September similar but it's oh that's an interesting okay um I was just thinking I just feel like September was a really gnarly month and September was a really hard month or lots of really painful things in the world and it like probably affected people in our community in unique and painful ways.

And so I think it would be really wonderful if we did go hard on this kindness day.

I know of um communities like in Utah County that have just had nights where it's like hey everybody come to the park and we'll have music and bring your dinner and we'll just like be together.

I think something like that would be lovely or we could like does the committee have something we like little notes or something that we can just hand out all week to people who we see are doing I think there's something we're at my needs.

Quick this is my daughter clicky she would like you all to know that that's a yeah I don't know um I don't I know it's like right around the corner.

I would be happy to spearhead whatever we decide we want to do but I do think that like I don't know I I think that like with all of the violence that's happened in lately and stuff and it would be really nice to like make a really concerted effort to signal for our community that um that that's not what we're about if that makes sense.

And I would be happy to have some coachare with you too.

I I I would love really love to see us not just you know the day but if we're through that week you know uh yeah if we're gonna declare that then let's you know sorry have it have some you know be some real meat.

When does the week start?

So it's like the Saturday to Saturday it's actually eight days so it's whatever's before the thirteenth um like the 10th or 8th or 8th is that what it is maybe yeah.

And it also includes includes Veterans Day in there so there's an idea to do things for veterans in appreciation and that's kind of that's true thoughts around the blood drive and we already have the veterans days and ceremony set up on the 11th at 11.

I mean maybe we could do something there after the after the ceremony I I don't mean to interrupt I feel like I'm no you're great connection is that um another thing I think we talked about in February was like making signs and putting them up in the community and I feel like we ultimately decided not to for budgetary reasons.

But if we even just made handmade posters that we could hang up at overpasses and the places where we usually have in the park was real usually advertised stuff at trailheads and just being like Draper is kind or something and then kindness week um just so it like as people are driving around they're aware oh it's kindness week and we're a kind community I think that kind of messaging could be nice.

And we have those bracelets that we talked about that says that draper is kind remember the parade I I could remember like if you follow this page for these that's where I get this idea from like you know during that time maybe do share on social media like uh ask people to share something kind for them you know so that would show that uh think other people lead for them and and they get a chance to room for that and and uh share recovery yeah I think yeah I like I like those ideas I think we could do something um I mean the signs aren't aren't a lot I I did get there's some in my office that say welcome to draper that we want for the ribbon cutting I don't think they were a ton of money so we could we could do that or um let's say um draper's kind or I do like the idea of like a little thing get together with music or something I just don't know what the weather will be like you know it's kind of a bad time of year but um we can we'd be like one bird cookies and hot chocolate or something like that and bring bring your dinner if you want we'll just have music playing and it's just I wonder if I could I could I mean if the Dave that's what I was available one of those nights maybe we could say come by for yeah donuts and hot fire or something would be kind of yeah and um then you could have up some of those signs but if we had some signs that besides something like you know it can have like a thing of draper's kind or whatever but I think it would be more meaningful to add add like I mean I've got a bazillion kindness quotes that are you know short and succinct and then then make you start thinking about you know things so it might be kind of fun to to have some things to get people kind of thinking when they did the signs.

Yeah I we don't and like if we don't have the budget to make those I would be happy to just go to the dollar store and get a bunch of posters and like blog letters online.

We can just kind of kind attack draper and on all sorts of public surfaces and yeah quotes, scrapers kind, anything like that.

No, the week is November 8th to the 15th.

Yeah, I I might be able to help you with posters or or even graphics or social media.

We can make a bunch and just hand trip around to it and share it.

Okay, yeah, that'd be great.

I'll look at the the day barn and see if we could um you know it's not I mean it's I don't think it's super busy right now.

It's not really holidays yet.

So I can see if it's available at night that during that week that we can be nice.

And I think I think the city could spend a hundred bucks on donuts and cider, I think that'd be fine.

It wouldn't be too much.

Yeah, so if we did that on like either to take off or close the week, I think that could be fun on either the Saturdays.

I'd like to do it and maybe we can see as a as a subcommittee plan for the week and then report back on things that we can use paper help on.

Um so when we're talking earlier about some of the volunteer opportunities and stuff.

Um and I know that with Draper City it's kind of hard to share some things because not necessarily supporting them, but you know, even within our committee, you know, ways if we share ways to to volunteer like when you passed out when you sent the email about um second and second coalition for the the um the club blue nights.

Um I mean they're reaching out more and more to get ready for you know this winter right yeah so maybe that's something that you know we as a committee can yeah be involved with and then have to spread the word and uh gather things to donate and go down you know support money out with your daughter yeah multiple times yeah yeah it's it's pretty awesome to connect with those who need the most love yeah I did it with Mallory a couple times last year wasn't it yeah yeah it's a good experience to have it would be fun to go as uh more of a committee or even if we went as a committee and like provide a dinner and did the whole you know instead of just volunteering but also like doing the dinner and yeah I like that idea.

Yeah let's do that.

Um so you and did you say Miller did yeah we did yeah okay yeah we did it twice I think yeah okay well I'll see if I can figure out a date and then put that one so that would be that works for everybody.

All right let's just let's move on to the next thing on our agenda is the um America 250 committee.

This is so exciting.

Yeah I just to celebrate in 2026 our nation's 250th birthday.

So yeah um and Brennan and I went to a a class there at the conference but um but there's there's lots of different ideas that different cities are doing and um these are just kind of this some of the things we we did.

So they're they're really pushing this America's potluck day on July 5th.

So we we did reserve all the pavilions in the city and the Bay Barn and arena and everywhere so we're thinking um the city could either provide like drinks or ice cream or something and then we'll just ask all the communities to to pot look on that same night.

Oh that's uh I thought that's a good idea that was a good one idea.

And then some of the other ones I mean David Wokes we're trying to kind of use our existing events so David Wils is thinking in our Draper Days Parade you can have 250 children walking.

Um they can let him walk now.

What's that it's you need to let them walk their um but then um yeah just some other ideas they threw out maybe some like walk or bike contests two fifty miles for the year coloring contests plant 250 trees um but they are in order to um by the end of the year they want the cities to do proclamation which we can do and also to form a committee and um it doesn't need to be like a organized committee eleven members just so we'll probably put a call out um soon so anybody from this committee that would like to be on the committee would take yeah and we just have the historic preservation committee and there's a few of them that want to want to as well love it.

Yeah.

So we'll we'll get more uh word out as it gets closer but I think yeah it'll be funny really wants to get behind it and do some fun things.

Totally awesome is anyone on this committee interested in being on the 250 committee.

I am watch for we'll um yeah I'll I'll try to remember that but we'll well we'll have we'll have next our meeting next month too so we might be farther along but that'd be great.

Yeah then next year I will be a line for my show too and I really hope that you did before the July four that would be great that would be awesome.

Yeah that's exciting okay all right anything else on that okay thanks Kelly all right let's just do a quick recap of the International Arts and Crafts festival that was last month um it perfect weather weather was perfect.

Yeah that was great and thank you for everybody that volunteered.

I was kind of in and out with my son's homecoming so I apologize but yes thank you for everybody that volunteered.

Yeah we we had it fully staffed the whole time so that was great and I think it I think it went well um does anybody have anything they want to uh highlight that you felt like it went well last month at the event improvement I thought we probably needed up our prizes a little bit um it just seemed like I think we could love like having something to do and then I I thought that was great.

I think the kids enjoyed it.

We did have great prices though this year.

Like we had Yeah, well she brought up she I think because Linda brought some bugs.

Oh the and the fan packs.

Everyone wanted one.

Yeah.

Okay, like this way or this way and people are like, yeah, I want one of those.

Yeah, that was really good.

Because when we first got the prize out, I thought, oh they're kinda like leftovers from last year.

Yeah.

But then Linda came in, came in strong.

Yeah.

I know we were concerned like attendance might have been lighter.

Did you ever hear the numbers?

I mean to ask Ivy.

It felt lighter to me.

Yeah.

Usually there's something going on in um I'll have to get the numbers.

It felt a little lighter.

We did have um, I don't know who was there at the end.

Um some like the band we I we we think we need to restructure it a little bit.

Because we had some bands down there by the kids that we probably need to keep the bands on the main stage.

Anyway, but yeah, that's all I really heard.

Just and I know that we bring in like the big school groups or the big it that's what brings people of the and I think like the closing band was like a rock you or something.

So they have to bring all the chairs from there down to the kids area.

Oh and um so yeah, yeah, it's great when we get those local bands that bring a bunch of people yeah, someone who brings a a big crowd.

Mm-hmm.

So yeah.

So we have someone that's super fancy.

And I'm like from the brands, you know.

I think they even draw on us like those uh goodies that we gave out.

Yeah.

And they were and we made um um and other in the last uh shift and and we did see many people who were new to the draper and they really love it.

Oh good.

That's great.

Yeah.

Uh yeah, I don't know how any ideas on how we could draw a bigger crowd, maybe some kind of a contest or uh I don't is there anything else we could do to to bring more people in?

I know maybe maybe um some of the entertainment maybe you know, we could probably bring some more like school groups or dance groups or something that might help a little bit.

But I think we have a lot of vendors and so I don't know.

We had a lot of food traps.

I don't know.

Yeah, what else?

Maybe there was some um somebody said there was maybe a market in Salt Lake or Park City or something that might have competed with.

Oh yeah, was it Swiss Days or no?

I don't know.

Italian like uh Italian festival too at Gateway.

And there was there were a couple of other festivals going around.

Okay.

That kind of an answer, yeah.

That's a good one.

So it's hard to find date that doesn't have anything.

And the people that were there loved it and they were grateful and yeah, yeah.

So you have to compete against something too.

Yeah, right.

We do need to refresh the little prices.

Yeah, yeah.

Yeah, people were asking for things and like it's gone.

We just have because we've had the same ones for like three or four years.

So Veterans Day ceremony.

We're still looking for speaker.

If anybody has any ideas of a veteran that we could ask to speak at that event.

Um and then just yeah, the rest of the events for the rest of the year.

And do we would you like us to have a presence at any of these or do anything to help?

Um I don't think there's anything that needs um the up really any help that we need, but yeah, I think it's always great to see you guys at anything.

So just show up, show up and smile at everyone and be friendly and then I didn't put it on there, but so I think we have a meeting we made again in November and then we take December.

Yeah.

And and we could we could if we wanted to show up at the tree lighting or any of these and and carry our kindness.

We can handing out candy canes as a jerkers kind.

We could we could do something like that.

So are you guys gonna have hot chocolate again?

Yeah, so I don't know.

We runs it never.

Or usually David sets it up.

Um he knows he'll have it at the tree lighting too.

And then if anybody has any ideas on how we could show up uh any of those events and maybe Jenny is if as the week goes on, if you're like, hey, we could do something else.

Even if it's just us personally like handing out something.

I'm happy to do that.

And veterans today, like I say, is during that week.

So we will be there anyway at the park.

I mean, which case we can do what we did last year.

Yeah, we didn't want to take away from that for sure.

But yeah, so yeah, and then I think it was Lucy said we could do something after, but I don't know how that would look like.

We'll let you guys figure it out.

And um uh just make sure to include Kelly on that, probably tell Burn on that, and Brynn.

And um if you need a list of everybody, could you send out a new roster for everyone so that we have everybody's current emails and we have new people?

Um I just don't think we've had a new email.

I mean, oh I need a new one like if everybody's name sent out for a while.

So that would be great.

So if anybody has ideas, just um go ahead and and email us all and we'll have put that have phone numbers too.

It's up to you guys.

I I noticed that somewhere when I forgot when I saw it.

And the winner gets a gift card or something, right?

Yeah, it's um I think the top one is fifty dollar Amazon card and then 35 and then 25 or something like that, too.

And then the winner gets featured on the card.

It a picture taken in draper has to be in draper.
