Okay, so um yeah, so I can on December 17th, which would have been our meeting, but we cancelled for it.

Um just if anybody's interested, we were we were approached by Rabbi Zippel.

He came in, he was great, and he's because Hanukkah falls in this certain week this year, they're trying to make this kind of traveling um menorah lighting through a bunch of cities.

So they're gonna be here at 6 30 on the 17th, and it'll only just be like a half hour, but they're gonna have treats and bite the menorah in the lobby.

Well that yeah.

We were just thinking about doing our and not that when we usually would meet in December.

They're they're hitting uh southdoor of the night for us.

They're trying to see a bunch of cities.

Yeah, that's gonna be interesting.

It's I love learning about different religions and celebrations and and that's that's great that they're gonna come to Draper.

And I think besides finding the menor, are they sharing some information?

Uh my mission.

I wouldn't think so.

The rabbis is gonna be there.

The mayor's gonna kind of um introduce him.

So I would imagine he'll do some kind of he said it would just be about 30 minutes, so it won't take that long to light.

So I imagine we have some kind of something to say.

Are you going to announce it for people?

We were trying to just talk about that, right?

Did we ever hear for sure?

Are we gonna um the we would like to?

Yeah.

We're just making sure we're clearing it.

But we have our Christmas tree in the lobby for everybody so it's right there should be yeah yeah how I think anyway.

But uh but yeah that um we're happy with it and we just gotta make sure if we can advertise for it or not.

Oh I wish that Miller was on with us because she's has a lot of knowledge about the black history contest and remembers a lot about the past and what do you think um do we keep going?

I I mean I think the ones we get are so are great and it's easy for us to put them up and stuff.

I just I wish we had a better turnout.

So I don't know how how can we get a better does anybody have any ideas on how to get a better turnout for the black history poster contest.

Um the prizes for each was three different age groups and I think the winner got like a $25 gift card and then like a our little art set kind of technique right but but I mean it's just whatever we want to pick up.

We usually do a $25 gift card for each category and then some kind of little prize and then in everybody that participates gets something like little candy and markers or something.

Yeah I feel like I'm trying to think for high school students.

A bigger prize and or something they can put on a college application or like say you know the college contests more of students we could probably go fifty each.

I know for for their visual art their high school art contest they get a lot of people but the prizes that prize is a thousand dollars.

Yeah that's a good incentive different level but yeah yeah I think I I would imagine we could go like a fifty dollar gift card.

I don't know if we can do much more than that but maybe we could talk to the art teachers in the schools.

Yeah I suggest that I think connecting that's what I was going to say connected with the art teachers but they they do come and that they get like some recognition by the we or something like something um like can it be an un I don't know if I if we have done something in the past but we could definitely do like a do it the mayor's coin yeah give them a mayor's coin or yeah something something so that way I think it's a little bit more oh cool yeah get you know like I think you guys we present it a little spotlight on them right like we shared after um I feel like earlier on we had them come to council meeting unless I'm just confusing that with other things like Christmas card.

Yeah we have a yeah but maybe we can put the Christmas card but that that's a good idea.

Yeah.

Because my yeah when my daughter's on a is to the the art teacher when she did for the Sandy C whatever whatever and I have no clue and then she wants something I had no steel no clue but she was so excited about it.

So yeah yeah so I think our teacher the one that the kids and they could make it like an assignment or I mean that'd be great if they could make an assignment but yeah we want other teachers I mean so there's our teachers for that but what about history teachers or are there any clubs for the middle schoolers especially like yeah and how do we contact them and who who wants to volunteer to contact the schools that's can we put a committee or something like last time divided up schools or something.

Right now if the Draper City library library they have those tiny art contents and my son had was saying that in school like uh it was an assignment.

Our teacher had asked you know they make a tiny art and send it to library but he had already draper cities and was so happy that he's done with it and we don't he doesn't need to do it so it was an assignment this year almost 750.

Wow it's uh uh we need to find out how why and how these schools were able to announce it to this students because when we did the back a few months when we approached the schools with some tires most refused to put up the tires and so the word doesn't spread among the students and the teachers otherwise I think it'll be a great one if you know there's a way to way to communicate with these schools to with I think in the past we put it in the peach jar.

Yeah we do that every we can do that but yeah I wonder if we have a committee and then each person communication contacts like three paper schools and just make sure like there's a lot.

So then I think that we'll be able to like you know site connect better.

So I think I think that would or if there's a way to communicate with the district then they are able to uh pass on these messages if it comes to them to the school they are more able to accept it than individually.

Yeah, we can Yeah, we do send it to the side.

Yeah, but I think if you make that connection, like uh you know it's like if I go talk to my little like that's going to be different.

So you have to either email them, call them, or you know, make that connection.

It's a lot more work for us, but if we wanna I think if we want to really push it, that's what's going to have to come down to making a connection with the person.

No just sending.

I was just gonna say for the um for the high school, um, you know, I'll find out from you know from our D V A F board who it is that we're contacting for the teachers and for that yeah for the art.

Uh-huh.

Um but that would just be for the high school seniors.

Um but at least that'll be a name because that that's that's how we did our stuff out.

Yeah.

Um I wonder too, like we had a cute um Girl Scout troop come in the other day.

I had like 30 girls.

I wonder if we could somehow get it out to like that with the Girl Scout or something.

Something to learn about and Boy Scouts too.

Or boy, yeah, yeah.

So we'll I have her contact buckets and that's right.

And what about the youth council?

Are they being contacted about it or you know, um, I don't know.

I wonder if if Caroline could give them like an hour's an hour's worth of service.

If they do.

They have to get all those service hours.

Maybe we could work something out.

That's a good idea.

If they want to participate, she could give them an hour.

So we meet January 7th, or probably I wonder if that's too late to know.

I'll try to do some work on it over the next um couple weeks and like maybe try and at least list the schools and and then we could just email them out, maybe.

I think I think January will be good because I mean the kids uh teachers are going to be busy with you know, like so.

And I'll be happy to help you know it's like wait, 'cause I have a lot of the friends.

I mean, I know a lot of different schools and both, so I think that it could be helpful.

I mean elementary though.

So maybe 'cause it 'cause I think actually, yeah, we didn't we don't have to have them do the first of February.

We had them do like we only put them up the last couple weeks, right?

So it was due like mid February.

Does that sound right?

Yeah, I think so.

So maybe we can just kind of come to that January 17th ready.

Yeah, ready with all our ideas and then pray and get it out.

The flyer won't be a problem because we can just update whenever we go.

Yeah if we're deadline.

Yeah, it would be good to contact if we're gonna contact the district to contact them sooner because they usually plan things out.

Or the school they plan things out a little bit further in advance, don't they?

And then we talked about direct contact with the our teachers or the history teachers.

So I think we just need like a spreadsheet too, you know, second and kind of like saying, Okay, I'm contacting this person or just so that way we can keep it.

Maybe I'll see if my um I'll see if my candy can like just make a list of all the schools and teachers and see if she doesn't crazy busy if not somebody from our committee could possibly.

Do you think she could do that?

And that's not lo adding more to her load.

Yeah, like you can get our projects.

Well, and if there's schools that the weather was service which is like six of them or something, because I know like that Karen has like Keg and say, Hey, I need I need a email of our teacher or whatever, or just go Google it and yeah.

Um so we can at least do that.

At least I just want to Google.

But uh but and but I can you know I feel comfortable with elementary, so that's it.

Um, hopefully everybody saw um the we had like 25 signs posted around JP City and I'm happy to see that the one out front is still there and oh it is.

No, there's one out front, and then there was one out back.

Actually there were two out back and one of them disappeared, but the other one was there.

So we had those uh around and then we had um bookmarks that we have out front and we have some upstairs.

And I did have somebody here in the city say that where they really need him as up front for up on top.

We had people climbing and I don't think that's probably and we have them at the library and then uh of course we met on Saturday and um went around and gave bookmarks and little kindness cards.

Um and Utah truffles to people and and that was fun.

I mean it was fun to talk to people.

We have fun around it was a nice thing.

But I mean maybe because you guys flopped around.

We were and then we couldn't find anyone to give it to.

So every person like we got like oh yeah, we already have it, we're good.

Um, but we went to the um harness I think you'll it is a good place to do it.

Did you go inside?

No, we just went outside.

We didn't even ask, but I think it's like we're just like and they went so quickly there.

Yeah.

Um but I think if we put a little table because a lot of people are like, um, you know, it's like no thank you.

You know, it's like that it says something that we're like the kind of like one of our little signs.

It would have maybe even easier 'cause you know, it's like to just hand it out.

Some people are like then like it happened last year in February, right?

We did it and people would you know they wouldn't even like make eye contact.

Because I think you're throwing trying to sell something.

Then afterwards like it's free.

So it's like this time part at this time at the park it felt easier than it did before because there's you know people were kind of divert, but then they were like really quickly it was like, you know, just want to let you know Draper's been celebrating kindness week and we just want to continue to celebrate and promote and encourage kindness and you know, we give it to him and it's like we had some fun conversations with people.

Yeah, I think that's that was easy.

I mean last year I did just the park and no one ever you know refused.

So I didn't it was just like the store.

But I in it was the people that we talked to, you know, they were very happy about it.

I mean good with the good feedback.

But it was just that initial is like okay with the maybe we can do different parks, like you know, the splash bed like the dog park and sit instead of dog.

Yeah, yeah.

That might be that might have been.

Well I mean we we needed to give it out.

I was like, okay, that's the place I know in and out of people go a ton.

So I was like, that was that was yeah, yeah.

But and depending on the weather next year too, if it's cool, people may I mean we left out with so many at the park.

Yeah, yeah, so busy.

But we had we had some fun conversations with like one lady who uh moved here from Sweden with her family just recently.

And um wants to find some women to ski with on Wednesday nights and how do you meet people and um there's some kids that were you know taking pictures for a dance and uh they're also sweet, some kids playing basketball.

And they were really appreciative, and then um there was uh uh the big playground, there was um like two dads and some kids and little kids and we had given them to w we're just giving them to the the grown-ups, you know.

Um and so we weren't giving candy to little kids.

But um as we were walking away, I heard heard the little boy asking his dad about it, and he said they want us to be kind.

And it's like, oh cool, fun conversation.

I want to you know, stay and listen to that.

So that was really sweet.

So we did that and then the city, you guys did a great video with some of the employees talking about kindness and um I I don't know, I haven't gone back in to see if anybody's posted any kind stories, but I mean people are hesitant to call me like I tried to comment on YouTube video, but I couldn't, and I I I thought maybe it was because it was on phone or something.

Now I tried from laptop to see if I can go.

No Jimmy commented.

Yeah, and someone else, I think there was one other comment just saying that this was a nice idea or something like that.

Yeah.

So but as a committee, I mean we could easily still go in.

I mean it's still something it's not like it's evergreen.

So it doesn't have to, you know, be just now.

I'm trying to device then.

I mean right now it was on YouTube.

I've watched it, but I didn't know.

I guess, you know, that you comment and do all those things there.

Like a social media page in there too.

I don't I don't commend them too, I guess.

That was good.

So that would be, you know, it gets uh upright.

I spent a lot of time in Draper, great people and they just and they just thought a little better.

We got a little bit.

Um and then my friend Ilia that lives he lives in Boulder and also half the year in Boulder and half a year in Greece, and he said, um Congratulations, love Draper, have many wonderful friends who live there.

So anyway, you know it.

So it's um all the city well every whole nation should be celebrating the America's two fifty.

Um it's 250 years from the declaration of independence, right?

So the they have all these ideas.

Um we have July 5th, we've reserved every pavilion in the city and it's gonna be like neighborhood barbecues or get together and so they have that.

Um David Wilkes has some ideas to incorporate it into like just Draper Days activities.

So it's basically basically just meeting for six months to help plan these events for 250, but it'll be over by July.

So if anybody's interested, let me know.

We have some from other committees.

I am you would be saying last time to be on okay.

So everything is going to be July 4th or no, July 5th is the is the day that the it's like supposed to be across the nation.

Everybody's getting together and having a little celebration.

So um we're just gonna we'll get the word out that all the pavilions someone will be there from the city handing out ice cream or drinks or something.

So the same time in every pavilion or park or baby and arena, we got them all that open sounds fun.

Okay, and I've I wanna also great.

Um ribbon cuttings, the only one I know of is this Friday at noon.

I do have the welcome to Draper Science if if anybody wants to show up.

It's ice cream.

It looks like delicious ice cream.

It's like ice cream in a churro or something like that.

Um I was wondering if we could talk about maybe some service opportunities coming up and who would be interested in doing it.

And um last year we did the Draper Angel tree with the our fire crew.

Um I called over to fire and she said there might be a family.

Um there was another group that said they might, but she so that's a that's a possibility if we want to pursue that.

I can check.

And I know you said I told her the wrong thing, so that was my um, but you can um does anybody have any connections with Ron McCoy House or I've got the sign up sheet you just sign up as a group as a group, so whoever wants to go, um they if we wanted to do it in December, or we could do it in January or whenever, and you just go.

Ronald McDonald House is at the like primary children's hospitals.

There's the closest one test is in Lehigh, and it's in the hospital, and they have beds and food for for the parents or grandparents that are staying with the child and people come in and bring lunch or dinner, and then sometimes they provide music and you can talk with the the people there and just be a listening ear and and provide some something for them to eat.

We went, um Steph Stephanie Walker and I went with some of our friends a few weeks ago.

So Stephanie Walker is Mayor Walker's wife.

And we did it and we're like, maybe we should do that as a committee, it would be nice.

So it'd be pretty easy, right?

Do you bring you bring the food?

You bring the food.

We just brought um sandwiches, our we actually did it for our friend's birthday, and she brought all the food and just wanted her friends to help her put it together and then serve it and talk to everybody.

That'd be nice.

Yeah.

So my my cold car really sick and was hospitalized for a few weeks, and we throttle McDonald room is like uh is uh parents' kids in the hospital because you're like stuck in the room eating hospital cafeteria food and the Ronald McDonald's.

Like you can go there to shower, you can go and get out of rooms where there are people monitors, they will come out and serve food, like warm real home cooked meals and it's like the most beautiful place on earth.

I would love to be molded in this thing as crazy.

That's great.

I would love to.

I think that seems pretty easy.

And I didn't think about there want to be in one in Wii High.

That's even more than a lot of things.

So anyway, in December, just to give you an idea, uh everything's pretty much full except for for some reason Thursdays.

Um so they have the fourth, the eleventh, the eighteenth, except the Christmas is taken, but they need um lunch and dinner for all those days, it looks like or or at least one of those things.

So the Thursdays.

The rules are like it either has to be food that is like catered or you have to prepare it there so you can't like cook a lasagna at home and then take it and serve it.

You have to prepare it in their kitchen.

So that's something we you should think about in in terms of like planning.

Um you have to get like lunch, I think is that easier because you can do sandwiches and things like that.

Dinners it can be whatever we want, but in period, maybe a little bit more involved.

Okay, right.

Okay, well I'll just put out um throw out some days, some dates, and then whoever wants to come and help.

That'd be great.

I think that'd be nice.

Yeah.

Stephanie Walker, she's like, let's let's do it once a month.

You guys could do it once a month.

I'm like, sure.

We'll start with once and then we'll see how it goes.

Yeah, we'll try it in December.

Um so I'll and it looks like it fills up fast, so I'll try to get that within the next day or two so that we can get in there.

Everyone wants to serve in December.

Okay.

And then so we'll do that one, and that's just whoever can make it.

And then um cold blue, they've kind of changed their process for volunteers, so you'll have to get onto a new new thing and get approved to be a volunteer.

It takes a day, but I think they're just trying to vet people more.

I don't know what they're doing, but you just have to um code blue is uh shelter for people downtown that the unsheltered who don't have a home but don't have a place to live.

So when the temperature gets down below 18 degrees for more than two hours, then um the state puts out a cold blue saying that um we're gonna open up more space for our people who are unsheltered so that they have a safe place to be.

So um there's some churches downtown that open their doors and they call it a movie night because they can't technically say that they're sleeping there.

Check people in.

Yeah.

Yeah monitor the bathrooms make sure people aren't doing drugs in the bathrooms we did that that was the ones and yeah it's uh it's great and you the people are very friendly and so grateful.

So grateful that they have a place to be and nice people to talk to.

Good food and yeah.

How do they know?

How did I know that it's the places so they can go they just know the word gets around.

Okay sometimes people have to s I think it's like only 80 something that they can at least at the church that we were going to that's the capacity and so then they'd have to try to find the other church was available.

And you can take different shifts in it you know over like you know 10 midnight or I mean all different types of windows but they do need to have somebody covering overnight.

And you can be going through yeah they'll give people an opportunity to come and and see what they need whether it's coats or more shoes or socks or whatever and you can work in that area but yeah it's it's it's yeah so let's when it when a a notice comes up I'll put it out and let everybody know at first so that you can at least sign up and get going.

I can I can send up the sign up the email I got.

Did you get it?

Yeah and I have gone into and I didn't go to any of the the volunteer meetings this year.

I didn't either so the the they just are grateful that you're there and um it's there was one gentleman that I got to meet and he played us a song that he made up and I was good he had his guitar there and just got to hear his story and you know it's just nice to sit down and hear someone's story and understand how they got to where they're at and then um just have you just have a lot more compassion for what's going on in their lives and and how you know some people have really tried and it's just it's just hard.

It's just hard another woman I'm like she she supported her wife and through sickness and and depleted all of her savings and then she had also burned lots of bridges with other people and then there she was she's like I don't have anybody that will support me now so here I am.

But she would she prided she had that pride of taking care of everybody else and herself and now she was not able to do that for herself.

So you know and she didn't have any issues with drugs or alcohol or she just was in that situation.

So there's there's really genuinely good kind people there.

I think everybody in that was genuinely kind.

Yeah and they're really before they let people in, you know when they're getting all the mats and everything set up before they let people in they'll talk about to the volunteers about you know this is how we address people and you know being very respectful and making them feel very welcome and not like doing you a big favor sort of a thing.

Yeah it's some really good people involved.

Yeah it's a it was a great experience I highly recommend it to everybody.

So and I'm looking forward to seeing you all there.

Maybe we can do it together a few times.

Luckily it's been warm so far.

Yeah.

Okay so we'll and then let us know about the angel tree if they want help with that one family if they don't need help then that's okay.

We'll do other things.

We can do the we can run on focus on that and the cold boob yeah.

Yeah every year we've done some kind of drive or something so yeah but that's okay if we don't too that's okay.

All right okay so what tell us about the events coming up kind of this just kind of a December calendar for the city um December 1st at Draper Park will be the R tree lighting.

And do you need us to help with anything I don't think so.

The youth council really help a lot for that one.

Yeah.

Um they are Santa's gonna be is gonna be over at the day barn there so it's a little more spread out this year.

Um he's not gonna be on stage but uh they're not yeah same as usual six to eight that'll be rust marshmallow roasting and do we need to do a smell dance or something yeah um so and then holiday market is the fifth which is Friday night like five to eight and then the sixth Saturday I think noonday and they have a bunch of vendors.

Sam will be in the day barn again on that those days and then the candy cane hunt used to be at the historic park.

They moved it over to the Draper Park this year.

It's used to be bigger um and partly just because it's all decorated and oh yeah so they'll have the same they're just gonna leave Santa and the day burn for wellery's on millery weed is on now.

Well, Miller's on Miller Weed is on now.
