The Draper Historic Preservation Commission met on February 18, 2026, at 6:03 PM. Chair Annie Bomber called the meeting to order with roll call. Commissioners present included David Hales, Jason Wiggins, Melissa Day, Wendy Atzett, Nancy Michaels, Jennifer Destromski, Natasha, Krista, and Elizabeth Allen (arriving later). The meeting covered updates on the historical society, inventory progress, national register nominations, Juneteenth article, and other preservation matters.

- Historical Subject Update: Nancy reported that oral history grants from Utah Humanities are paused. Inventory work on February 2 made progress; another session scheduled for February 23 from 6–8 PM. A spreadsheet for inventory is being created. Plans for a band at the Heritage Banquet were discussed.
- Walking Tour Video of Historic Homes: Jason and Nancy plan to meet with property owners in March, but funding is unavailable until July due to other budgeted items (national register nominations and reconnaissance survey).
- National Register of Historic Places: Two bids were received: Kirk at $5,000 per nomination ($10,000 total) and Coral at $2,500 per nomination with a reduction for one property already surveyed, totaling $4,200. The commission noted previous costs around $2,500. A motion to accept Coral's proposal was moved, seconded, and passed unanimously.
- America 250 Participation: Chris reported ideas including a community service project (possibly installing the Widowmaker plaque) and writing an article for Draper Forward about Draper in 1776.
- Native American Recognition: Wendy announced the Galena Stone Finding Monument webpage is live on the historic sites page, with a write-up, video, and map.
- Little Maker Plaque Update: Chris indicated progress with the county but no update on installation.
- Juneteenth Event Article: Wendy shared a draft article about Alex Bankhead and enslaved people in Draper. Commissioners praised the tone, requested a map with modern labels, and supported publishing in Draper Forward coordinated with communications.
- Brochures: David proposed asking the historical society to fund brochure holders since the commission lacks funds. Commissioners agreed it was appropriate to ask.
- Historical Research: David briefly mentioned ongoing research on African Americans in Draper.
- Other Business: Members discussed sheep history in Draper and an upcoming lecture by the Sons of the Utah Pioneers.

We're ready. Yeah. Alright, welcome everyone to the chat. No, it's fine. Welcome everyone to the February 18th, 2026 version of the Historic Preservation Commission of Draper. Um it is currently 6 03 PM. Uh let's start off with a roll call. Um Annie Bomber. David Hales, Jason Wiggins. Melissa Day, Wendy Atzett, Nancy Michaels. Jennifer Destromski, and then Natasha and Krista, if you want to introduce yourself. Hi. Alright, perfect. Um, did everybody get a chance to read uh last month's minutes? Yes. Did I yes? I have some changes. Perfect. To go over after I sent them, Melissa emailed me and was like, I I combined Elizabeth and Melissa together. Oh in the minute. So um that and then I found a couple places where I had Alan spelled AN and then E N. So um there's so there's a couple spots. So in the uh minute uh voting, I just need to fix Elizabeth's last name, and then in uh 3A put Elizabeth Allen. I had Elizabeth Day. Oh so and then there's another for the minutes recap here. So we just need to fix the spelling of Elizabeth's name because I had it two different ways. So all right, do I mean do we want the moment that we accept the minutes as a corrected are all in favor? Aye. Alright, motion good. Okay, back to hey, let's kick it off with the historical subject. Um Elizabeth doesn't look like she is here to win. But you re okay, perfect. Nancy went to the last meeting. Do you want to give us an update? Um, it was all talk about what they're gonna keep and what like uh each said she said things on but I asked them about the oral histories and they and I just texted Lynn today and she said they were gonna talk about it again, but we found out that they're on hold. So the grant, so they are also warning Howard was wanting to have a band at the Heritage Banquet that would play the old time music and so I took a picture of the draper brass band and I sent it to the two um instrumental teachers at the middle school and the high school to ask them about it, and they said, well, we can't do it over the summer because we're not around, but if you made up a flyer, maybe we could pass it out to students who might be able to come up with something. I also put it on the draper do you remember Facebook page to see if anyone might be interested? That's fun. Yeah. Did they say anything about anybody being willing to come to the senior center and talk about Draper history? Um I mentioned it to them, but nobody said, but I will bring it up again with them. Okay, perfect.
