The Eagan City Council held a special workshop meeting on March 11, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at the Eagan Municipal Center. The council heard presentations on the Community Conversations student conference, the draft Climate Action Plan, the Parks Master Plan update, and a proposed alternative landscaping ordinance amendment. No formal actions were taken on these items; the council directed staff on next steps.
Meeting, and I think it's a few minutes. Welcome everybody to the March 18th. I'm sorry, March 11th. This is our first uh workshop meeting of the month of uh March uh and got a uh kind of compact but a fairly substantive agenda tonight uh as well as uh uh welcoming in uh some of our students from Egan High School as well. Uh and I was gonna talk about uh climate change and uh 20-year parks planning vision or something like that. So um just some little things tonight. So with that, um uh Ms. Miller, any change in the agenda? No, Mr. Randy. Uh council may change the agenda. Motion to adopt the agenda is presented. So that's moved and second is any further discussion on the agenda. Seeing none of those opposed nay that motion carries, and we have an agenda. Uh I want to check before we get into that agenda. Are there any visitors to be heard on items not on tonight's agenda? Seeing none. Uh bring it back to the council. Uh our first topic tonight is an update from uh Sarah Aylig uh on uh community conversations. She is joined um by uh um folks from the uh human finding human uh institute who are doing some uh DEI work for us. Uh and uh they're gonna be reporting on a community conversations process. Uh and the first one that started at Egan High School with uh said students who have joined us tonight. So welcome guys. I'm gonna go to Sarah and then let her organize it here. Ms. Aylin. Thank you, Mr. Mayor. Uh I am joined tonight by our group of students and our consultants from the Finding Human Institute. Um and we'll talk about one of the community conversations that occurred in February. So to set the scene, um, the community conversations are a series of gatherings with community to answer this question to really dive in together on what can we each do to ensure Egan is an inclusive community where everyone thrives. So in February, we brought together students from the three high schools in Egan at Lachawk Middle School, and uh asked them three questions to build up to to really dive into this core question. Um across all these conversations. Uh small conversations that are taking place in people's homes, and a larger conversation open to the public that's coming up in April. Um we have our expert facilitators leading the way. Um these are taking place in a variety of settings, so large energetic gatherings, small intimate sessions, uh one-on-one conversations even. Um and there's lots of ways to get involved. So it's all built around this question about building the future and making sure that this is an inclusive and thriving, resilient community. Um so we know that at the heart of that is the student voice. So really making sure that the young people in Eagid are part of this conversation, um, answering these questions, thinking about it, um, and taking it forward with them. Um so like I said, we have our consultants from the Finding Human Institute. You've met them before. This is Paula and Robin. Um and they'll be taking over from me in just a moment, but just to set the scene for the student conference itself. This was a session with these students in front of us. Um it took place on February 19th at Black Hawk Middle School. We invited students from all three school districts that serve the city of Egan. Um it was facilitated by Robin and Paula. Um so the students are here today to tell us about their experience. Robin and Paula will set the scene um and then turn it over to them.
