Meeting Transcript
Sorry. Pledge allegiance to the play. And to the Republic of One Nation, another guy. Welcome everybody to the August 19th regular meeting of the Egan City Council. This is our uh second and final regular meeting of uh the month of uh August and of the summer. Uh depending on where you call the summer. Um uh we have a fairly brief agenda tonight, unfortunately. Councilmember Fields wasn't able to join us for the meeting tonight, but uh I think we can get through an officer swearing in and the consent agenda uh just fine without her. So uh with that, um Ms. Uh Miller, I think change his agenda. No, Mr. Mayor. Uh council, any change the agenda. Promotion. Councilman Black and for a motion. Second. That's moved and seconded. Any additional conversation on the agenda. Seeing none, all in favor and opposed nay. That motion carries. Uh and we have an agenda. Uh first up on that agenda is the uh aforementioned recognitions and presentations. It's the administration administering of the oath of office for newly promoted Egan police sergeant Jacob Coulson. I believe that right. Of course. Okay, sounds good. Well, we'll come back to you. Uh Chief New. Um I'll let you correct me on the spelling. Um, but um before you get into that, I was wondering if you've seen where the Red Sox and the twins are in the standings these days. And I was wondering if there was gonna be a little bit of bantering this evening. So it's always good to see ya. Uh Mayor Council, I would like to say thank you for giving us this opportunity tonight to do the oath of office where with our newly appointed uh sergeant Jake Hawson. Um these nights are are really important to the officer and their families, and as you can see, uh Jake has a number of guests that are joining us here this evening. He has his uh his wife Cassandra uh right behind us. Um his children are here, Liam, Charlotte, Eleanor, and Ethan. Um Jake's parents, uh Jeffrey and Linda are here uh somewhere in the room. Um along with a number of other guests and partners in the back of the room. Um for those family members that don't know why they might be five. And I will just simply tell you that Jake was grumbling about uh the boss and part of the committee. So uh you want to make it put in the little while. But in all seriousness, I want to thank you guys uh for being here this week, especially because I this past weekend, uh Jake got paged out and had to run out of the house and left Cassandra uh with the kids while he was doing uh price here for the uh so Cassandra sacrifice a few minutes to allow Jake to do this job called police work and uh um mayor council. Um this past year we've promoted um three officers to the rank of sergeant here in the City of Ego. Um we've promoted uh Sergeant Street Lam, Sergeant Maiden and Sergeant Cop, and I'm really excited to add uh Sergeant Coston to a list of uh uh sergeants here in the police department. The these promotions promo uh really highlight some of the uh excellent leaders that we have in the department and truly as I uh as you mentioned for a little bit uh as far as my timeline with the department. Uh my end my career is coming to an end, but uh I'm really excited to see where these future leaders uh careers go and uh really uh I'm excited to see the direction of the department um uh and some of the leaders that uh will pursue other opportunities in the coming uh uh months, years ahead in the Egan Police Department. Um to formalize uh uh Jake's pro um s wearing in, I would like to invite his wife Cassandra up at this time to do the actual pinning of the badge. I'm gonna share a little bit of background about how we got Jake's and please. If you want to come up with please stand up here, good angle. Um Jake started his law enforcement career uh with the Dakota County Sheriff's Office.
