The Eagan City Council met on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at the Eagan Municipal Center. The meeting began with the swearing-in of Firefighter Claire Beerling and Deputy Chief of Operations TC Schellinger. The council then addressed a consent agenda, four new business items (a comprehensive guide plan amendment, a planned development amendment, an interim use permit, and a conditional use permit with variances), and administrative reports. Notable outcomes included forwarding a controversial townhome proposal to the Metropolitan Council and approving an interim use permit for a women's transitional housing program.
We'll eventually get to dance down. I want to welcome everybody to the uh uh Monday, August 3rd, regular meeting of the Egan City Council. This is our first meeting of the month of August. Uh we're meeting on a Monday night tonight. Uh and next week, actually. Uh but tonight we are doing that on a Monday night because tomorrow night is um a uh local holiday of sorts. We have our national night out observation tomorrow night. Uh so I hope that uh uh I know everybody up here in the dais will have a chance to get out. Uh and I hope uh all of you have a chance to get out in your neighborhoods for national night out as well. But that's why we're here on a Monday night tonight. Uh we have a fairly substantive agenda, but I think we can get through it uh with some level of efficiency, so I'll just start the meeting up right now. Um Ms. Miller, any changes to the agenda tonight. No, Mr. Mayor. Uh Council, any changes the agenda motion? Council Member Hansen for motion. Adopt the agenda as presented. Second. That's moved and seconded. Is there any further discussion on the agenda? Seeing none. All in favor, secondly saying aye. Aye. And opposed nay. That motion carries, and we have an agenda. Uh first up on our agenda tonight is um uh recognitions and presentations. We are uh having the swearing in of uh newly appointed uh Egan Fire Chief Claire Claire Berling. Um sorry, firefighter. Uh uh Claire quick promotion, yeah. Didn't get the message by the way. Yeah, yeah. We're gonna do it together. Claire Beerling, there we go. Um thanks. I really appreciate everybody dwelling on that for so long. Uh as well as the admit as the uh administering of the oath of office for uh deputy chief of operations T Cellinger Schellinger. Um I don't need phonetic spellings for both first and last names. Last names, please. Uh with that, uh, I'm gonna turn over to uh Chief Mulholland uh to uh lead us in here and hopefully she'll do a better job with Prince Jason's than I did. It's no guarantee, Mayor. Um thank you for this opportunity to share this celebration of achievement with you and with the community. The fire service, as its name suggests, is rooted in service, but the fire in our title only hints at the breadth of what we do. Our profession has evolved far beyond its origins, now encompassing emergency medical services, technical rescue, and even new challenges like electric vehicle fires and increasingly complex structure fire environments. As our responsibilities grow and change, it becomes even more critical to have talented people and leaders who can adapt and rise to meet the new challenges. Tonight we honor two such individuals, one who is committing to serve this community and evolve alongside its needs, and another who has dedicated over 20 years to our department, guiding it through many changes and now stepping forward to lead us into the future. I am deeply grateful for their commitment and service and for their families who share these exceptionally talented individuals with the city of Egan. This evening is also a celebration for the families for your unwavering support and your sacrifices that you make. Thank you for being a part of this journey with them. So tonight I will start with firefighter Claire Beer Beerling.
