The Eagan City Council met on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at the Eagan Municipal Center. The meeting primarily featured celebratory recognitions (swearing-in of police officers, a sustainability award, and parks and recreation awards) and the approval of a consent agenda. No public hearings, old business, new business, or closed session were conducted.
Or It's all right. Pledge allegiance to revive the United States of America. And choose a republic for which it stands. Our final meeting of the month of August, I believe. And uh we have a uh brief uh but celebratory uh uh agenda tonight. Uh we're not celebrating because we're not meeting on a Monday, but instead of Tuesday. Uh we're not celebrating because people are starting to schedule fantasy football dress. It's always a welcome part of the year. Um, but we are celebrating uh four new officers uh being uh sworn in to the Egan Police Department tonight, uh, and some recognition uh of some of the projects here in Egan from around the state. And uh and uh that's a fun thing to do. Uh aside from that, we're not doing much else in this meeting tonight. So uh I welcome you all. I welcome the families in here, uh, representative of the celebratory nature. Um I don't often see people walk into a city council meeting uh with flowers in their hands, but sir. Uh congratulations and well done. So we look forward to that to that time uh with all of you tonight as well. So uh with that, uh, Ms. Miller, are there any changes to the agenda tonight? No, Mr. Mayor. Second. That's moved and seconded. Any further discussion on the agenda. Saying none. All in favor, signal saying I. And opposed nay. That motion carries, and we have an agenda. Uh, I will move right now to uh recognition and presentations. And uh call up uh Chief uh Salima Mari uh for the administering of the oath of office to newly appointed Egan police officers Emily Lopez, Jacob Gregg, Isaiah Wright, and Dacion Schumann. Is that right? Excellent. Somebody somebody gives me good staff for that. So uh take it away. Uh Mr. Mayor, uh, council, staff, community members. Uh if I can, uh I'd like to make some remarks before we uh deliver that oath. Um we've been talking about uh three words quite a bit here at the Egan Police Department, and really what we stand for, and it's around honor, courage, and excellence. We serve with honor, protect with courage, and lead with excellence. We don't put these walls or these words on a wall because they sound good. We put them there because they're the standard every one of our officers is measured against. Honor is doing the right thing when no one is watching. Putting someone else's dignity ahead of your own convenience. Being the person a stranger can rely on before you know a single thing about them. Courage is not only what happens when everyone else is running out and you're the one running in. It's also making the right call under pressure without perfect information because that moment won't wait for you to be certain. Excellence is by no means perfection, but it is a refusal to settle. The discipline to do the small things right when no one's grading you on it. Good enough is where most people stop, but it's where we start. Tonight, four people take an oath to live those three words for this community, not as a slogan, but as a commitment.
