Next, we're gonna go to council members.

Of course, may I thank you very much.

Uh this past two weeks, we're not too busy for this council member, but we did get a few things done.

On Tuesday, the ninth, I attended the Scampo meeting here at City Hall.

Scampo is a Sun Card or Metropolitan Planning Organization, and they deal a lot with uh ADOT and highway funds and whatnot.

It was very interesting meeting.

We were here at City Hall, and this move meeting moves around from place to place.

And it was nice learning where those funds are actually spent or not being spent.

Then on Wednesday the 10th, I attended the Penel Public Transportation Subcommittee meeting in Florence.

I was at the uh the Florence Emergency Operations Center.

That's where that meeting took place.

And representing Eloy was uh Matt Rentra actually represented Eloy via Zoom meeting there.

He did a great job articulating Eloy's needs for future transportation, and things were discussed, uh different ways to possibly get some, which I'm very happy about, possibly get some actual public transportation into Eloy.

So they just scratched the surface, nothing's gonna happen, but it was nice just to see those conversations finally coming to take place.

Then on Wednesday the 17th, I was driving on Frontier, and there is a new store getting ready to open a new market.

So I saw a vehicle in front of the market.

I stopped and I went in because I can't help myself.

I went in to introduce myself to the proprietors, the owners of this market, and just a fantastic couple they were.

And it was a husband and wife, and they're inside this market, they're cleaning it up and they're doing it old school.

They're doing it by hand by sweat of their brow.

So we had a nice conversation, and I of course I thank them for their investment in Eloy.

And it looks like they're gonna get a fantastic market off the ground somewhere, somewhere in the middle of August, they're hoping.

So we're very happy about that.

This isn't my normal face.

Um, I wanted to just say COVID is on the rise.

I've been exposed um all last week, pretty much.

I think everybody has and so um just protect yourselves.

Um, if you have an opportunity to get the vaccine and do if you want, uh I don't care, it's up to you.

Uh, but just understand that um it is out there and it's affecting a lot of people right now.

So um you can I know you guys want to see my smile, but I just can't right now.

And uh out of respect for my fellow council members, I decided to to wear a mask.

So um that's where I'm at right now.

And we've had some other very close friends and fam members who have had it tested positive.

So right now I'm negative, which is good.

Um, but uh we want to protect ourselves in the community that we serve and live in.

So that's all that I have for myself.

Um so the first update we have here is a hard one to talk about tonight.

Um, unfortunately, we received news last week of the passing of longtime employee Francisco Pancho Balanos.

Um, he'd worked for the city for over 13 years and dedicated himself to the city um and the city of Eloy.

Uh it's a hard pill for us to swallow.

He, you know, made a big impact on this community um on this organization, uh, and for that reason, tomorrow he's going to be having his funeral services as well as his burial, and we are allowing our staff members to attend that.

That's going to be taking place tomorrow from 8 to roughly 11.

So during that time, there is the possibility that there could be a disruption in service because a lot of our staff members will be attending his funeral tomorrow.

Uh so just wanted to brief the council, the mayor and the residents on that.

Uh, and our thoughts and prayers are with him, his family, and his wife Yasenia, who also work for the city of Eloy as well.

So um our hearts and prayers are with them.

The second update we have is the Eloy Council Candidates Meet and Greet is this Friday, the 26th at 5 p.m.

at the Bent Prop Saloon.

So that's obviously located at the Skydive Arizona campus.

So if you're interested to meet with the candidates there and you didn't have a chance to see them at any of their other opportunities that we've had in the city, that's gonna be another opportunity for the residents.

The third update we have is Fantastic Fridays.

So that's gonna be through the community services department, and that's gonna be launching uh right now through August through April on the first and third Fridays of every month.

So this programming will take place at Troy Thomas, the community center.

Um registration must be filled out prior to attending.

So make sure if you're interested in having your children attend that um to get down their website or to go to the community services department to pick up a flyer for that.

This Saturday, July 27th at 7:30 at Jones Park, we have the movie under the stars, and I'm pretty sure it's gonna be a Scooby-Doo movie based on a flyer.

So obviously, if you're a Scooby-Doo fan, go and check that out.

The last two updates we have are the community yard sale.

So that's gonna be taking place not this coming Saturday, but the following Saturday on August 3rd, and that's gonna be from 6 a.m.

to 12 p.m.

at Main Street Park.

So make sure to reserve your place if you want to be attending that because we are filling up quickly.

And then the last update I have here again, it's not necessarily too much related to city operations, but the primary election is going to be held next week on Tuesday, July 30th.

So there's gonna be polling that's gonna be available at the Eloy Public Library, um, and that's gonna be from 6 a.m.

to 7 p.m.

So if you want to cash your votes for the candidates that you're interested in supporting, make sure to show up on next Tuesday.

Are they still doing it at the um senior center, Tall Tech Senior Center?

Tall Tech Senior Center and here in the community room.

Okay, we have three polling locations.

Perfect.

Yeah, and that's interesting because on the website it doesn't have those updated.

So on PenellGov, when you go to their Penalvote.com, it only shows the one location at the library.

So if that is a case, we need to reach out to them and get that updated for sure.

Next we go to business.

Item A, authorization to purchase a new Caterpillar D7 landfill bulldozer from Empire Caterpillar under the state.

Members of the Council.

This item is being brought to you for the operations at the landfill.

As you know, we we the equipment that we have there now is is beyond its service life and uh with newer and better equipment.

We can be more productive at the landfill and we can be more efficient in our operations.

This was included in the CIP budget for this year for the purchase of up to a million dollars.

Uh Enterprise Empire Caterpillar is on the state procurement website.

They have a state contract for heavy equipment, heavy machine.

Excuse me, heavy machinery.

And so we are asking you to consider approval for allowing us to purchase a new dozer for up to a million dollars.

And this is the empire here in Eloy?

Yes.

Are they going to give us a location discount?

They will, and they're they're they're also uh they're they're providing the freight for us as well.

So we are working with them.

We're we're trying to to repair those relationships that have maybe gone sour in in years past.

This has been uh approved in the capital improvement plan for 25 24 25.

Do they usually cost them out a million dollars?

Generally, yes.

Yeah, they're they're pretty pricey, but we are getting a substantial government discount.

Are we getting any trade-in for our other ones?

Or is this scrapped?

No, we're we're actually gonna keep the we we don't have a bulldozer right now.

We're we're going to keep the the landfill scraper just in reserve in case of maintenance repairs to the new equipment.

Um, how long do these this type of equipment, this type of piece of equipment?

How long do they typically last?

I think our older one was is that the one that was 20 years old, or was that a different piece?

It was, yes, and and generally the the life uh Mr.

Mayor Madam Councilmember, generally the service for heavy equipment is about seven years, ten years if you're lucky, and so we're well beyond that.

Okay, and yeah, that like the mayor mentioned, it sure would be nice to get that sales tax off of that equipment.

I mean, heck, we can just go pick it up, it's down the street.

Uh I'm just curious.

Was anybody have explored or is there any possibility of like leasing one of these?

Would that be an option instead of an outright purchase?

Mayor member um councilmember Sitan, yes, we we actually did look at that.

We do have a price for that, and that's something that that we can certainly negotiate with them, but as it stands right now, the lease purchase price is is about $20,000 more than a purchase price.

I'm just going through it all.
