Council members, Tony Smith, President and CEO of Panell Partnership, Penal Partnership since it's the beginning has been advocates of safe roads and for our communities.

We've got uh we'll have um yard signs and signage around the county, but it's the message is very simple.

It's maintain our roads without raising taxes, and this is the very basic uh road maintenance tax for the county and our communities.

This was established originally in 1986, and every 20 years it's been renewed.

This is not a new tax, it's not a uh tax increase, but it's basically just the tax that we use in order to maintain our roads.

The road repair and widening, traffic safety improvements, intersection improvements, road preservation, and some limited new road construction.

The monies that are collected are split half between the communities by population, and then also for the county for local road maintenance.

Eloy is one of those communities that benefits from this particular tax.

Reasons for they can get to their calls in efficient and uh manner.

We as drivers on those roads in order to stop uh our limit wear and tear, need good roads.

Economic development needs good roads in good repair, nothing worse than a company that wants to relocate or check it out your community and your roads are not in very good shape.

So the only reason I'm basically here is to let you know that there's a messaging issue, and and uh we need your help because there's a lot of folks in our feedback sessions that believe that this prop 486 is a somehow associated with the failed proposition of two years ago.

It is not, it has nothing to do with that.

This is our basic road maintenance fund to keep and maintain our roads, and thank you for your time.

I realize you cannot respond.

And and you're absolutely right.

This is a ongoing tax with a uh uh tax for 20 years, and so there's no sunset, just right there's this 20-year sunset, but we have to keep it going for the next 20 years, and we're not raising any taxes at all.

It stays the same.

So, and it's it has benefited the city of Eloy in the past and as of right now as well, too.

So thank you.

And we cannot confuse it with the one that failed.

He's absolutely correct.

This is a whole new proposition.

You'll see it with all the other propositions on the back of the long form ballots coming forward next election cycle.

Uh tomorrow I have my um corridor metropolitan planning meeting tomorrow in Castle Grand, so I'll be doing that.

And then also we did go on a little field trip.

Went to the town of uh Paradise Valley to see they have the same audio video system as we did that we do here.

And um uh the Jerry, who's the mayor over there, did an amazing job um allowing us to go into the city hall town hall and giving us a tour and uh really spent sent spent several hours with us, and we also got a tour of their whole complex with the uh police department as well, too, and met the their chief and and some sergeants as well.

So uh we had a great time and uh really enjoyed, learned a lot from the system they have that's similar to ours.

They had some issues with it at first, and uh they corrected them, but um yeah, we're gonna continue moving forward on changing out this system.

We don't know when, but the money's in the budget.

We just need to figure it out figure out um how to make this better for people watching online and everything.

So yeah, that's all I had.

Oh, just a couple things on the uh city manager's update.

Uh this Saturday or Friday, September 13th from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Troy Thomas Community Center.

We're doing the glow in the dark dodgeball.

So that should be a lot of fun.

First 10 teams to register.

We entered into a drawing to win a gift card.

So spread the word.

Um, secondly, we've got another couple of events.

Uh, we've had 9-11 this week.

So the Central Arizona Community College is hosting an event from 5:30 to 6:30.

And then additionally, here locally, the Eloy Intermediate School is in their cafeteria host a first responders 9-11 memorial event at 7.30 a.m.

So I know there's several of our PD officers will be attending that swinging by.

So welcome any members of the community to join as in and in that festivity as well.

And finally, speaking of PD, we've got two new cadets starting your Gilbert Academy this week.

So last year we had two go through, very successful academy.

Great officers came out of that and are doing phenomenal work for the Eloy Police Department.

So looking forward to this next uh group going in, and it'll be around six six months.

So it's a it's an extensive academy, but good, very great academy that we look forward to having more young officers graduate from.

So um I know Jose's on that on that committee, and what an amazing job.

My only concern is I I do want to make have this license go forward and approve it.

But the only concern I have, and I spoke to our city attorney about this, and also our city clerk.

Well, my only concern is is under the question and answers.

It says provide name, address, and distance of nearest school is if less than one mile, note footage.

They did put Curriel primary school with the address, but it's listed two miles.

And when you go to Google Maps, it's like a thousand three hundred and fifty-six miles or feet.

I'm sorry, feet feet.

So I just yeah, yeah.

So I I wanted to see I want to make sure this paperwork doesn't get messed up with us or at the Department of Liquor.

Um with it saying two miles when it's actually 1300, little over 1300 feet.

Steve, can you help us out on that one?

Uh Mayor, Council members, as you are aware because you approve a lot of these.

We are basically advisory.

We don't have the final say.

The State Department of Liquor License and Control does have it.

The statute that references the distance on it is ARS 4-207, which talks about distances from schools, and the distance on it is actually 300 feet.

So even with the corrected distance there, they would still they would still be in compliance with that statute.

And in speaking to the city manager about it, there was also some question whether this was a renewal of a pre-existing license, which would have been grandfathered in.

So I would not see a problem with this going forward if the council were to approve it.

Just and stating on the record that that they note that the distance for the nearest school is actually 1300 feet versus two miles.

Okay.

I just want to make sure it's we note it on our end.

And also shows that I'm reading my paperwork.

So that was my only concern is addressing the the feet from the place of business to the school.

So with that being said, I'd like to make a motion to approve with noted feet instead of miles of 1,356 feet from the school property line to the store.

Mayor, I believe it would uh forward a favorable recommendation.
