The meeting lasted several hours and included public comment on numerous items.
Okay, everyone. I am ready to call the August 4th meeting of the Fayetteville City Council to order. Clerk Fondren, will you please call the roll? Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. Present. Present. Here. Please join me as we recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Pardon me. We have some very special presentations this evening. First and foremost, some recognition awards for our fire department for going above and beyond the call of duty. We are always proud of the men and women of our fire department. But in this particular circumstance, we truly have several children in Fayetteville who have these members of our department to thank for saving their lives, quite literally. And I would like to ask Chief Holse to come up and say a few words. And then I would like to come down and personally thank each of you and we'll get a photo. Yes. Good evening, Mayor, Council members. So I will be brief. So on the morning of June twelfth, our crews were I sure can. Is that better? Okay. On the morning of June twelfth, our crews were dispatched to an apartment building on East Oaks Drive for a report of a fire with the possibility of occupants trapped inside. This was an older apartment building, and the only way out they had was the front door, and it was blocked by fire. So ultimately they pulled the five people out. So situations like this are actually rare in a firefighter's career. Sometimes they don't ever come along to this magnitude in a firefighter's career. But when they do, there's no room for error. And I'm proud of all of our folks. They trained diligently for this very situation, even though it does not happen that often. And because of the fact that not a single person was hesitant in their job, these uh these adults and children are alive today. Had they had had they not been on their A game, most certainly the the folks would have died, or at least some of them. So there were lots of people involved in this. It even got me out of the office for a little while. Um but tonight we really want to recognize the firefighters that played a direct role in pulling the the people out of the building and getting them started towards treatment. Um did you have some things to say up on me? Not that easy to get down there. Thank you so much. Christopher Boyd. Thank you so much. Thank you. Kyle Bradley. David Harrison. Michael Anderson. Brian Powers. Thank you.
