Good evening, everyone. My name is Richard Franks. I'm the mayor of the great city of Gastonia. On behalf of the City Council and myself, I welcome you to the July 21st, 2026 meeting. I will now call the meeting to order. First up, Councilman Casupius will lead us in an invocation. Thank you, Mr. Mayor. And good evening, everyone. At this time, I would like to request if you feel so inclined, please bow your heads and join me in prayer. Dear Heavenly Father, as we gather here today, we thank you for the gift of this beautiful day and for giving us another day to be here together. We ask your special protection over our children during these final weeks of summer. Keep them safe as they play, travel, and spend time with family and friends. And Lord, during these very hot days, please provide our community with the resources needed to stay safe and healthy. Watch over those who work outdoors, those without adequate shelter or cooling, our seniors, and all who may be vulnerable to the extreme heat. Help us to care for one another with compassion and generosity. May your grace guide us in all that we do. Help us to listen with open hearts and open minds. May we see one another with eyes of kindness, learn from one another and respect the diverse voices that make up our great community. May love and peace reign in our discussions, and may we always seek to build bridges that allow us to connect and enjoy the beauty of your creation. Father, we thank you for all who serve this city, our dedicated staff, department leaders, first responders, public works employees, utility workers, parks and recreation teams, and every employee whose daily efforts keep our lights on, our water flowing, our streets maintained, and our great city safe, clean, and beautiful. We give uh special thanks for our interns who bring fresh ideas and energy as they learn and contribute to the future of our community. Bless each of them with wisdom, encouragement, and purpose. We are also grateful for the many citizens who chose to serve our community through volunteerism, civic organizations, nonprofits, neighborhood groups, and acts of kindness. We recognize and thank those who help heal others in our local community health centers and help bring comfort and hope to those in need.
